Book Reviews of The Beginning (Animorphs, No 54)Book Review: The Beginning Summary: 5 Stars
I have read the book...its excellent. To review it, I will go through my few qualms and then onto why I think it's so good. The main problem I have with the book is that she said she wasn't going to do a cliffhanger ending to this book like she planned on for Everworld. I honestly don't mind it TOO much (she gave good reason for it in her sort of Epilogue), but I think I would have preferred, not necessarily a 'happily ever after' ending where everyone survives and lives what turns out to be Marco's life, just a full ending with all differences settled (Jake/Tobias??) and all questions answered (Ellimist/Crayak war??). I was also deeply upset when K.A. chose to put Cassie in another relationship and then basically cut her out of the Animorphs. I hated her not being there in the ending to go out fighting with the group and with Jake.... Now, other than those few differences of opinion I had over the book, I find it to be a very good conclusion. I don't agree with those of you saying that she 'gave up' on Animorphs or that this book wasn't worthy of being part of the series. HELLO!! She is the mastermind here. One thing I love is how she seemed to age the books along with her ageing audience since I (at 16), like many Animorphs readers am now older than I was when I first started reading Animorphs five years ago and am far beyond that reading level and target audience. I believe she did a good job of continuing to attract her fans that are again five years older than when they began. She ended this book realistically, for her older audience, instead of in the fantasy sort of way we all would have wanted if we were still ten or eleven, and I think that's great. Even the Cassie incident I didn't like was very realistic and possible, but it was my youth in me remembering the early days when they were all a happy family and wishing that were so. The reason many of us were upset at times, is that inside we love the Animorphs so much, and know them so personally through these books we read every month, that we hate when we see the series end and we want two opposite things to happen at once, a happy and realistic ending. I say they are opposite because this was after all a war and the effects of war are generally not happy. K.A. Applegate, I congratulate you on this wonderful series and good luck in your future writing. Good-bye to you Animorphs, it was a great ride.
Book Review: Wow...I cried like a baby!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Like most people, I was in middle school when I discovered Animorphs during that wonderful summer of 1996. I was a loyal reader up until #40. For some reason, I stopped readong my favortie books. I don't know why. I only recently began rereading my books and catching up on the ones I had never read. Now, when I was getting reaquainted, I learned all about the horrible ending, about Rachels tragic end. But I never read this book until now. And I still cried. I cried even when I knew how it would end up. I can understand why loyal fans would feel hurt and cheated by the UNBELIEVABLE cliffhanger, but on the other hand, I agree with those few who understood this was the ONLY way for the books to end. It broke my heart and I sat in my room crying for a good half-hour, grieving for these characters I have grown up with. They truely were like real people, and K.A.'s talent has never shined brighter than in this book. It was deep, dark, and more thought-provoking than any book i've ever read that was geared toawrds the 9-12 age group. I'm not ashamed to admit that i'm in college and I STILL reread these books. They will always be apart of me, and the characters will never be far from my thoughts. But now I have to say goodbye. Jake, thank you for teaching me about responsibility and leadership. Cassie, thank you for being moral, and for showing me how to win a war without losing your soul. Rachel, thank you for teaching me to take risks and not be afraid to live life. Marco, thank you for making me laugh. Ax and Tobias (my favorties), thank you for making me feel less alone, for being the only characters that conected with the part of me that always felt like a "misfit." You all taught me courage that will never leave me. In her last letter, K.A. leaves us by saying that we "may now demorph." I may be demorphed, but i'll never forget these books. <together we fight>
Book Review: Wow!! This is definitely worth the money and time and more!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have read each and every animorph book there ever was. I have been dedicated to them since the day a friend of mine told me about the series. Now I'm having to say goodbye. This is so sad, but I think that KAA did a good job. She knew that there would be people upset with her for ending it with another cliff hanger (as she said at the end, if you want to read it!!) but she had to end it the way she did. I agree with her. They deserve to go out fighting. I do not think that she could continue from there because I believe that they died in that mission. This book is awesome, and I mean that in the true sense of the word. It was time for it to end, and she did it wonderfully. It is hard to accept the unperfect parts, but that makes it real. People do die, and true love doesn't always work out. I'm sad that no one got to be with the one they loved, but I think it wouldn't have been right for her to try to fix it all up right. That's just softening the story instead of keeping it true. And to anyone who thinks I'm crazy for saying that this story is true, I'm not saying I am going out there looking for yeerks or thinking that this applies to the real world much. But, as with any good story written by a good author, the people and characters do become real. You aren't writing the story as much anymore, it writes itself. I'm proud of KAA for being able to stick to the true self of the story. She is truly a great author and she did good. I don't want to read the other series because I can't take more. I loved this series, and I like KAA, but too much emotion comes forth in her stories. I can't take that, but I'll always love Animorphs. It will always have a special spot in my heart, mind, and my bookshelf. By The Way.... I love you Tobias!! I'll comfort you!!
Book Review: An unexpected ending Summary: 5 Stars
I kind of have to admit, I both like and hate the endings. I mean, read them! It is so ... so sudden, but also well-weaven. In the cover, it says "It began with six. It will end with five..." Well, it is obviously true because at around page 23, Rachel died through a fight with a morphable Yeerk. However, the remaining Animorphs were able to capture the REAL Visser One, took over the pool ship, contacted the Andalite fleet, and finally, won the war. They should be happy, but because Rachel died, they weren't. After three years, yet another trouble ranged them, and this time, it was about Ax. Ax gone missing in an assault with an unknown ship, which fled to Kelbrid space and are not available any more to Andalite forces. So Jake, Marco, Tobias, and others set off in a Yeerk vessel and then come face-to-face with The One. The One is a parasite, different than Yeerks. His voice is deeper than thought speak. Thus, he could sense living minds, and he is the seed for a new Yeerk empire. Knowing it is their last chance, Jake orders their Yeerk fighter to ram the blade ship and the story ends.
You might guess "So is Cassie the only survivor?" But, we never know for sure. It is vague, dusty, but imaginable. We may think the Ellimist will break the arcane rules and save all of them. We may think that the Arn back at the #34 The Prophecy secretly save the elixar of the Animorphs. We may think Cassie had acquired all of the Animorphs DNA and used Andalite tech or Arn tech to restore them. We may think other many things. But as long as K.A. Applegate keeps it secret, it is just our imagination.
THE UNEXPECTED AND EXTRAORDINARY CONCLUSION TO MY beloved ANIMORPHS.
Book Review: A thing writen by SHE-MAN Summary: 5 Stars
Hello Animorph fans. I read that K.A Applegate reads these kinda things. This book is insane. i wouldn't say it's the best of the series, but definitely one of the best. It starts out when Rachel must go to a Yeerk ship, alone all alone, and she must kill Tom, so the morphing cube won't go into the evil of the Yeerks all throughout the universe. I don't know why Applegate chose Rachel, but my theory is at the end. As almost everyone knows, she dies fighting. So did Tom. Though I really don't understand why Jake sent her to kill Tom in the first place, cuz the cube went to the other Yeerks on the ship. So Rachel dies, and the rest of the team capture the mother ship, where Visser 3/1 was. So lade lade la they save the world at last, and they become well known. Jake, Marco, and Cassie are heroes. Ax is a prince, and Tobias and Rachel are known as the forgotten animorphs. So eveythings cool for some years, which Marco gives a brief and funny summary of what happened aferwards. Ax goes back to his home planet, bla bla bla. But something happens ( doesn't something always happen ) and Ax is missing, and the other Animorphs (except for Cassie) go in search for him with another Andalite. What if theres something more evil out there that control the Yeerks? Anywayz thats about it. Theres a nice surprise at the ending too. My theory about Applegate choosing Rachel: Well in one of the books in the series, can't remember which one, they say: We don't know what will happen to Rachel when the war is over. So i think Applegate couldn't figure what to do about Rachel, ( No offense Applegate) so she made her die doing a brave thing. That's all.
