Book Reviews of The Beatles AnthologyBook Review: Truest of Spirit In The Anthologies Summary: 5 Stars
Okay, I'll be quick - - - a great book in the great Beatle style - - you get your money's worth. The design of the book is what they call "fantastic!" where I come from - - - humorous, serious, Beatle-deep, poignant, and SATISFYING. I think that it's obvious who will truly like the book and who will not. If the Beatles are a life-affirming laughing get up and sing-something inspiration to you, than this book delivers!!! (It reminds me of Rubber Soul and Revolver.) I've studied, read, looked, listened to it all, and this is the only Beatle book that imparts that ineffable Beatle emotion - - it doesn't PROMISE to do that - it just stands up and does it. Which again, is a great Beatle "quality" - - Of course, the curiosity for "The Beatles" is inexhaustible, and the idea of a definitive book that captures everything is impossible to carry out. But this stands as best as anything could have. If there is a Beatle-spirited person in your life somewhere, than pass this book along - - he/she (hishi?) will be singing any moment now.
Book Review: outstanding, last word on the Beatles Summary: 5 Stars
Absolutely essential for Beatles fans. Most of the Beatles story was already known by the fans and even by the non-fans. What I really liked about this book was their accounting of their pre-fame days. George Harrison's account of how he and Paul as teens hitchhiked for days, slept on beaches and bleachers, hardly had any money and were just two boys out to see the world was touching. Paul and John going to Paris together after John gets a 100 pounds as a birthday gift. The boys almost freezing to death in their unheated van, touring the country (George losing control of it, causing a wreck which injures Neil Aspinall, their roadie, and subsequently getting his license suspended!). Ringo sums it up in the end when he says that the Beatles' story was about four guys who really loved each other. That love really comes through in this book. The four of them lived through an experience that no one else had been or ever will be through. They managed to maintain their sanity and changed the world along the way. Not a bad way to live one's life.
Book Review: Fab photos & text; a very cool book for Beatle fans. Summary: 5 Stars
As a long-time Beatle book collector, I can honestly report that this book is gorgeous & the concept fairly well-executed. Some of the photos were so amazingly personal & unusual-- since purchasing The Beatles Anthology, I have repeatedly enjoyed looking at the interesting candids from the Beatles' own private collections. As far as personal revelations from the group, there were not many surprises (especially if you have already viewed the Anthology video). Also, in my opinion, there was not enough emphasis on the actual recording & songwriting. However, there were plenty of fun anecdotes about their early years on the road (complete with stories of Beatle drug experimentation) & how everything changed for them with the onset of enormous fame. It was expecially touching to read about the respect & affection the group felt for each other in the early years. Overall, the stories were nice, but buy this one for the photos! It should make a fine addition to your own Beatle book collection and/or your coffee table.
Book Review: A joyful book! Summary: 5 Stars
How can any Beatles fan not be delirious over the arrival of this book? I spent four hours glued to it, lovingly turning each page, laughing, smiling and astounded over so many previously unseen photos. I have 400 Beatles books in my collection in many different languages. This book beats them all in content, style, text, arrangement and producing pure bliss in the reader. Some of the early photos from the Cavern and Hamburg years have appeared before in Mike McGear's 1977 book, but there are other new photos when the boys were so young it's almost piercing to look at them. My only slight criticism is that much of the text was lifted directly from the Beatles Anthology series. This was disappointing, but the soaring positives of this weighty book cancel out any whining. For all of us Beatles fans, this is the apex of what will be offered for a long time. You will cherish this book and get endless hours of fascination and enjoyment from it. John, Paul, George and Ringo...still producing powerful emotions. They always will.
Book Review: This book should be in your collection Summary: 5 Stars
Hi I'm 13 years old named Steve S. SJS. When I first got my copy of this book was for christmas, I immeditly read it day after day never put it down. In this book it is all told by the Beatles them selves, they talk about diffrent topics althroughout the book. This was one of my favorites labeled America, and if you know what type of impact the Beatles had on Americas music on Febuary 9,1964 when they appread on the Ed Sullivan show. In that section they talk about their apperance on the show and also some pictures that were taken in Central Park. But there are more ecsiting topics but this book also shows rare pictures taken inside the Bealtes studio's and the making of Abbey Road which shows atleast 6 pictures of mess ups of them walking across the street. Well I hope you will have more fun reading this book then I did. Here are some other fun beatles movies or Cds. Beatles Anthology the dvd. A Hard Days Night dvd. Abbey Road cd. Beatles 1 cd. Imagine John Lennon the dvd (movie was printed in 1988)
