Book Reviews of The Beatles AnthologyBook Review: Great Stuff. Really Great Stuff.... Summary: 5 Stars
Exactly one month ago, I couldn't name all four Beatles. I was born a bit more than fifteen years after they split up, and I certianly wasn't around when John Lennon kicked the bucket. My belated Christmas gift was Beatles 1, and the first time I played it, I fell madly in love with their music. This book was my early birthday gift. As everyone knows, the pictures are great. Wonderful color and quality. (I wish they had had captions, though. It took me a while to figure out who was who.) You can spend hours just flipping through the pages, looking at the pictures. The words aren't to be shrugged off. They're small, and packed with infromation. It's great reading because it doesn't assume you know things, but it doesn't stop and explain too much either. It was also intresting to get one event in four or five different perspectives. The best thing about the text is that it isn't like really like reading at all. It's much more like listening to people talk. My overall rating of this book, this anthology, is excellent.I'd give it a 6 if I could. Whether you've been a Beatles fan for a decade or a day, this will help you get to know the men behind the music. Buy it. It's priceless.
Book Review: "The Top a Most, of the Pop a Most" Summary: 5 Stars
This is the book we have all waited for. For almost 30 years we have waited; and MAN!!! Was it ever worth the wait. This book is at first glance; one of the most beautiful books I've ever held in my hands. The paper used is thick, heavy, and smooth as silk. It's a rather large book, which gives the photographs an impact few books have offered before. Even the shots I've seen before are striking. This is by far the most comprehensive document ever published on the "Fab Four". So many surprises, so many "little" details that only the boys could know. Everything about the "Anthology" project has been done with such loving care, and this book is no exception. The beatles have given the world so much over the past four decades; and now, with this rich impressive chronicle, they give us their own personal recollections of a time when the world was just beginning to learn how to ROCK!!! Thank you, John, Paul, George, Ringo, George Martin, Neil Aspinall, Mal Evans, Derek Taylor, Klas Voorman, and Yoko Ono. This is without doubt; the "Ultimate" book on "The Beatles". Still the most influential band in the history of Rock n' Roll.
Book Review: FIVE STARS FOR THE REAL INSIDE STORY OF THE BEATTLES !! Summary: 5 Stars
This long awaited brand new Beatles history contains 368 pages and more than 1,300 photos, many never seen before by the public. It's loaded with personal stories from how the Beatles came to be, the early rough days, their rise to fame, the social changes they caused and how they finally broke up. It's written as an autobiography, not a tabloid account of their lives we're so used to seeing. This autobiography provides insight into their lives unlike many of the other accounts published. Their tales are filled with humor and they mince no words about their lives and what they stood for. Many of the photos and documents included are from their personal archives and have never been seen before by the public. The Beatles make it clear that they would say what they really thought about the issues of their time and hoped others would be truthful and do likewise. Their philosophy was "everything that happens to you is good, as long as you learn something from the experience." This is a MUST HAVE library volume for Beatles fans and something you'll enjoy, keep and refer to for a long time. A great addition to the vast Beatles literature.
Book Review: Incredible Magical Mystery Tour Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not ashamed to admit it. I am a Beatlemaniac. They weren't of my era growing up in the 70's but I didn't care. While my friends were chiding me for being so behind the times, I for once didn't listen to peer pressure. I took my Beatle habit underground until I got old enough to realize..if you don't dig the Beatles, I can't be your friend. I'm old now, 38, and I don't have time for the lovable mop tops. But every once in awhile, something happens that sends me back to the "comfort music" of the Beatles. This incredible book has got me going again and reminding me why I loved them. With the perspective of being inside the band, the stories and the photos are like nothing else. So much has been written about them, it's refreshing and timely to have the four members speak out. The interviews with John were so well edited and all four of them had incredible insight that time wisdom and age have cristalized into this masterpeice of pop culture, music and history. No wonder the Beatles 1 album tops the charts, knocking of the BackStreet Boy franchise. It proves in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.!
Book Review: Display This Coffee Table Book & Guests Might Ignore You ! Summary: 5 Stars
This beautifully bound book is more than I expected . The Beatles have always delivered on quality and value for the fans and this is no exception . Many photos are recognizable to the foursome's rabid followers but much more are new to public view . One picture I especially like is one of George and Paul sharing a laugh at a studio mike during sessions for the Abbey Road LP . ( And to think popular myth says they never had fun in their latter days as a group!). The layout is creatively done with writings and documents of Beatle significance often overlaid on the page . Think you know about all there is to know about the lads ? ... Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr , and the recorded rememberences of the groups founder John Lennon will prove you wrong . After over 30 years of a mountain of Beatle books it's only fitting that The Beatles themselves have the last word . To those who would say that they are just cashing in again on their fame I say : So What ! The Beatles were ripped off financially in so many ways in their performing days that they deserve everything they receive from this book .
