Book Reviews of The BFGBook Review: Good story but plot holes much? Summary: 4 Stars
Number one: I read this when I was six, so forgive me if I get some things wrong.
Okay, so the main character is an orphan called Sophie. She can't sleep one night, so she happens to look out the window. She happens to see a giant. He happens to turn around and see her. As a result, she knows too much. She's in bed, and next thing she knows, the giant has abducted her. Lucky for her she was taken by a nice giant, who is known as "Big Friendly Giant" or BFG for short. Unlucky for her she now has to live in Giant Country, and is constantly in danger of a human-eating giant finding her.
Here we come to plot holes. First, I noticed that the BFG mentions being hungry just before Sophie finds out the truth about him. This doesn't make any sense, considering the next happenings. Second, the reason he took Sophie was to make sure she didn't tell anyone, yet at the end, the pair are living happily in London, and everyone knows. Third, if everyone knows, what exactly happened with the orphanage? Did anyone even notice Sophie was gone?
However, none of these hindered my enjoyment of the book, and most kids of six wouldn't notice-I only noticed these as a teenager!-so I recommend the book. I loved all the Roald Dahl chapter books when I was five, "The Witches" being the first chapter book I read by myself, and I recommend them all.
Book Review: The BFG Summary: 4 Stars
The BFG
By: Roald Dahl
The BFG book is about a girl named Sophie. She is captured by a giant during the witching hour. The giant takes her Giant country. She thinks the giant will eat her or something worse .When she discovers that the giant is the only one of his kind that doesn't eat human beings. Sophie and the giant will try to stop the giants from eating more human beings.
The BFG is very tall, he has very funny English an example is this:"Hi your majester".Sophie is a ten year old orphan girl. She is a very brave girl. She has blonde hair and uses glasses. Other important characters are the nine furious giants and the Queen of England.
This is a good book because it has lots of funny words like flushbunkling and others. I recommend this book for 10 and up. The book has a very good story and even better characters. The BFG says funny things like "you is barking at the wrong dog".
Book Review: It's A Pretty Good Book Summary: 4 Stars
This review is written by my daughter:
It's a good book. I don't know Daddy, you write it. That wasn't part of the review! I'm serious Dad! Please! Just write it for me! I don't want to write this review. I don't know what to write. To everybody who is reading this review, my dad is typing it, and I want him to stop. Stop for serious, Dad. You can write it Dad. I want you to delete this review and you can start it again. I want you to delete what you just wrote because I want you to write it. Dad, I have a paper airplane with an edge and I'm going to poke your eye out if you don't delete this. With a sharp edge. With a pointy edge. Okay, Dad, I'm going to do it.
Book Review: The BFG Summary: 4 Stars
Roald Dahl is the author of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Matilda," and "The Witches" and other children's classics. The BFG is about a girl who lives at an orphanage named Sophie. When Sophie sees a giant, when she shouldn't have, the giant has no other choice but to snatch her. But the giant isn't like the other giants. Good thing or otherwise he might have eaten Sophie after taking her from the orphanage. In the giant's world, things are very different for Sophie. After she learns about the other giants who do eat people, she creates a plan to save the world from them with the BFG's help of course.
Book Review: Am I the only one? Summary: 1 Stars
I have tried, really I have, to like Road Dahl and what is referred to "classic literature," I have read the BFG and James and the Giant Peach with my kids. But I found myself editing as I went and I did not like all the dark underlying content. These are books for children, right? James' parents being killed by a rhino and then the awful cruelty of his aunts, and in the BFG the giants and their horrid names that eat children... am I the only one who sees a problem here?? No more for us. I really do not understand why these books are rated well. I really do not understand why they read the BFG in my son's second grade class either. These books are NOT for young kids and are depressing.
