Book Reviews of The Art of Getting OverBook Review: i keep picking it up. Summary: 5 Stars
filled with full color imagery from early graffiti days of the late 60's to works from last year. Oldschool and newjacks will all see something they can feel connected to. The example driven chapters give a feeling there is always room for more rather than a definitive wrap up of this hugely growing subculture. The book is unique in that its not an introduction it's more of an advanced course.the art of getting over is more than pictures and stories that it contains, it is the appreciation that recognizes there are many stories untold and to unfold in this graffiti game.big up to espo and the urge to see your name on the blvd.
Book Review: Greatest Graff Book Summary: 5 Stars
This is it. This book may be the best book yet. One critic compared it to "THE FAITH OF GRAFFITI" but I'd make the argument that "THE ART OF GETTING OVER" is the superior work. Anyone familiar with Norman Mailer's book knows that his approach was to appropriate the guise of a graffiti writer. Well, here, Stephen Powers doesn't need to appropriate as he is a dues-paying graffiti writer. And a literate one at that. This may not be the best book to use as a graffiti primer but one would be remiss if they didn't eventually graduate to it. This rates as a 'Five Star' book easily, without question.
Book Review: finally a graffiti book by someone from the inside. Summary: 5 Stars
I for one would just like to say that I am thrilled to see Steve's book doing as well as it has. I grew up in New York, writing graffiti and I am happy to see the story of contemorary graff told from the inside by someone who knows. "The Art od Getting Over" is the best graff book of the last decade, if you don't know, now you know, buy it. Oh, and if you live in New York and want to see the billboard for the book, look above the Whitney Museum billboard on Layffayte and Great Jones. That's what I'm talkin about.
Book Review: Nothing even approaches Summary: 5 Stars
I got the book a couple of days ago and I haven't been able to put it down. The way the graffiti-writer's are profiled and the reasons why they are important is documented so well nothing previously published has come as close. Wow. I have to highly recommend this book to anyone remotely interested in graffiti culture and history. The author discusses the master graffiti-writers in a manner quite encompassing and yet intimate and personal. This is by far the best book concerning graffiti.
Book Review: THE ART OF GETTING OVER Summary: 5 Stars
ESPO IS AN AUTHORITY FIGURE IN THE ART OF GRAFFITI. HE IS OLMOST TO MUCH FOR WORD'S. HIS BOOK HAS GOT TO BE THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER READ. ME BEING A GRAFFER MYSELF, I KNOW WHAT IT TAKES TO DO THE THE THING'S HE DESCRIBES IN THIS BOOK. THERE SHOULD BE THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR THIS MAN AND HIS TALENTS. I WOULD RATE THIS 100 STAR'S IF I COULD. ESPO IS DEFINITLY A KING IN THE ART.
