Book Reviews of The Archangel ProjectBook Review: Buckle your seatbelt and hold on to your hat cause you are in for a ride Summary: 5 Stars
October 'Tobie' Guiness is a damaged war vet who earned herself a 'psycho' discharge from the Navy after a disturbing vision in Iraq, a vision that Tobie was unable to convince her commander was real. Tobie tried to stop her vision from becoming reality but no one will believe that the buildup wasn't terrorist activity. Tobie has always been a little bit 'odd' and doesn't feel that she measures up to any of her family members. Trying to put her life back on track she is seeing a therapist and has enrolled in college classes in post Katrina New Orleans where she is also working part-time for Dr. Henry Youngblood on a remote viewing project. Tobie has never understood why she has 'visions' and Dr. Youngblood has begun teaching Tobie that her visions are not portents of the future but actual events that are happening elsewhere and how to take control of the visions which have caused her to be out of step with the world around her for most of her life. Remote viewing is something that various world governments have experimented with for decades and primarily abandoned because of the less than perfect success rate. Unfortunately for Dr. Youngblood and a growing list of others, October saw something that shouldn't have been seen and now there are only a few days remaining to make sure that glimpse into the forbidden is erased.
James Aiden Xavier Alexander, Jax for short, is an agent for the CIA who still believes in what he does but doesn't always agree with the 'powers that be'. Jax is going the wrong way on the career ladder and has ended up in Division 13 where he has just learned about remote viewing, which he doesn't believe in, and been given the assignment to travel to New Orleans and look into the death of Henry Youngblood. Take elements from the top echelon of a corporate giant with huge government contracts, rouge CIA agents, black ops, and the CIA's Division13, mix them altogether and you have the makings of a tight, gripping story that grabs you from the starting gate and doesn't let you go until you fall off after the last page panting for more.
C. S. Graham is the writing team of Candice Proctor and Steven Harris. Harris spent two decades in Army Intelligence and Candace Proctor has published 11 previous novels including the Sebastian St. Cyr mystery series under the name C. S. Harris. I can only hope that this is the first in a long successful collaboration. I received this book as an advanced reading copy from the publisher so I have written and posted reviews at several sites and sadly some people's feelings about the book seem to be swayed by their feelings about the current political situation in this country.
This book has been compared to The DaVinci Code because in some people's mind both books are historically inaccurate and smear the good names of some venerable institutions. This is simply a review of a work of fiction along with my opinion about how I regarded the entertainment value. This is not some deep, dark tome that will require you to take notes to keep track of everything. It is a work of fiction meant to entertain you for a few hours of your life. I think The Archangel Project does that job quite well. If you are looking for historical, political or even societal accuracy you may not want to choose your reading material from the fiction section. If you picked up this book looking for a little bit of action, with a dash of adventure, a sprinkling of martial arts and just a pinch of the paranormal all stirred together and brought to a boil until done, then this title has everything you are looking for. Grab a bowl of popcorn, a cold drink and curl up on the sofa for a few hours cause you are going to New Orleans and it is going to get hot in here.
Summary of The Archangel Project A murdered psychologist with ties to a secret CIA-funded remote viewing project . . . A haunted young Iraq War vet with a "psycho" discharge and a talent that has marked her for death . . . A deadly secret that will rock the world. You can't hide the truth from those who can see. When the charred remains of Tulane professor Henry Youngblood are discovered in the burned-out ruins of his New Orleans offices, the CIA sends maverick troubleshooter Jax Alexander to investigate. Joined in a reluctant partnership with remote viewer October "Tobie" Guinness, Jax struggles to decipher a cryptic set of clues that leads from the devastated neighborhoods of New Orleans to the power corridors of Washington, D.C. Pursued by agents of an influential oil and defense conglomerate with ties to the President himself, Jax and Tobie soon find themselves in a breakneck race against time to stop a ruthless killer and avert a diabolical plot that could devastate America.
