Book Reviews of The Apprentice: My Life in the Kitchen

Book Review: Perfect memoir+cookbook
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a wonderful read, as a memoir, a fooddie book, and a cookbook. I knew nothing about Pepin besides the name, but his is a remarkable story. The writing is light, snappy, and engaging. He paints a lovely picture of food as a part of life. The story where the snails are all over the bathroom...! Cooking for DeGaulle, almost by accident, and then for Howard Johnsons... Best of all, the recipes are good. The souffle recipe and the tart recipe have become standards in our house; I must have made them a dozen times already, often with easy variations. Just can't recommend it highly enough as a light read in any season.

Book Review: A really good read.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have known of Jacques Pepin for years of seeing him on PBS TV and he just seemed OK. As time goes on I am finding what an interesting character he is and what a great teacher and Chef. My eyes where not open to him until I attended culinary school a few years back. The more I study this man to more interesting he becomes. This book in particular is one of the best I have read in awhile. Every Saturday I eat lunch at Brasserie Perrier at Boyd's and am reading this book, I am only half way through this book but do find it a riveting read.

Book Review: Awesome book, Awesome Buyin gexperience
Summary: 5 Stars

My younger sister read excerpts of this book and talked to me at length about it. I immediately got on to Amazon to look for this book . I was so pleased to see it available. I placed an order and the book was delivered in immaculate condition to my house in 3 days. I am very pleased with the seller.

Coming to the book itself, I enjoyed each and every single page. Especially of him as a child in France. I would highly recommend this book.

Book Review: I'm so glad I bought this book.
Summary: 5 Stars

What a wonderful life that Jacques Pepin has had. I was motivated to buy this book because of his appearance on Sara's Secrets and became interested in his anecdotes about his mother. I now plan to buy his cookbooks. This memoir of wonderful experiences is the kind that benefits the reader. He really lived in golden times in France and in the United States. I am a big fan of Charles de Gaulle so I loved reading that he was such a good boss.

Book Review: Incredible life story and surprisingly well-written.
Summary: 5 Stars

What an amazing life story. Not a moment of this book was boring or uninteresting and it was surprisingly well-written, witty and insightful. Pepin's story is inspiring. It shows that if you are dedicated and willing to work hard, you can achieve almost greatness.

This book is not necessarily for "foodies." I think most people would enjoy reading it. Not only does Pepin have talent as a Chef, he is a talented writer as well.
