Book Review: Great Book - Have Had It for Years.
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great book and only one of many tools to help us on our journey to help ourselves toward a better quality of life living with panic attacks. There are no sure cure for excessive anxiety and panic attacks. But with a good psychologists help for behavior changes, medications to take the edge off, my faith to give me the courage to try and keep trying even when I fail, education through the availability of information published, and a lot of hard work and self evaluation of my own behaviors and coping skills that I have learned throughout my life; I have lessened the harshness and frequency of the attacks.
Once I learned some of the reasons how I acquired the poor coping skills on how I reacted and saw things to situations in my life I began to start to baby step my way, pray and put the hard work into changing those destructive life coping skills.

I will still have good and bad days for panic attacks and will be learning the rest of my life on how to better deal with them and thats okay. I'm much better than when I started my journey of healing.

Book Review: A terrific resource for therapists or those who suffer with anixety

The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook addresses the whole range of anxiety disorders and symptoms and how to deal with them. Chapters focus on relaxation techniques, coping strategies, interfering thoughts, identifying feelings, assertiveness, and self-esteem. Types of medication and what to consider are also explained. Even areas that you wouldn't think would be related to anxiety, like nutrition, are explored.

I first bought this book when I was in graduate school and found it to be an incredibly helpful resource to use with clients. I have done exercises from the book with clients or even encouraged them to buy a copy for themselves. The text is written in a reader-friendly way; someone with anxiety who might not want to go see a counselor could use this book and gain some relief from their symptoms (of course, the actual exercises would have to be completed, not just read). The cognitive-behavioral approach that this book takes is the intervention of choice for most therapists for working with people with anxiety issues.

Early this year, I developed an Anxiety disorder and I had two full-blown panic attacks. The second one was because I got neglecting my medication; it has been the most terrifying experience of my life. If you had suffer such a thing, I don't need to say that you feel like there is no way out, even if a lot of people that love you and professionals are helping you, like in my case. Then a cousin that has very similar problems recommended me this book, and I found a tool to get a grip on my situation and assume my own responsibility to recover. My therapist, a very professional woman, was amazed with my progress just one week after I began applying what I was reading. This book is concise, clear, complete, respectful, humble, well written and well documented; it is a truly life-changer. I wish I could thank personally to Dr. Bourne for it. If you have problems with Anxiety, please don't despair, buy this book and get it and yourself a chance.

The book explains the causes and the nature of most anxiety disorders and phobias. Bourne emphasizes the many treatments for these disorders such as biopsychiatry, intense psychotherapy, and spirituality. Even if you are seeing a professional therapist this book can act as an aid. If you suffer from panic attacks and all sorts of fears you should use the self-help exercises provided in this book.

There are lots of way to handle life's many problems.

Book Review: Great book
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this book mainly because I wanted to get rid of social anxiety. However, as I was reading the book I realized that I had so many other things that I needed to change in my life (all of them probably contribute to social anxiety as well) such as alleviate perfectionism, remove self-doubt and all bad beliefs, become more relaxed in general and create a balance between play and work.

The book has helped me to put together a program for myself to reduce anxiety. A few of the steps in the program are relaxation (meditating and visualization), exposure (step by step), becoming more assertive, increasing my self-esteem, changing bad beliefs with good ones, taking care of my needs, etc.

I must say that I haven't started with the program yet but I'm going to in a few days and my expectations are very upscale.
