Book Reviews of The Almost Moon: A Novel

Book Review: Audio Book as read by Joan Allen
Summary: 5 Stars

Alice Sebold is a fantastic story teller. I got "The Lovely Bones" as a audio book, and would re-listen to it while driving, walking the dogs, etc. Her new book "The Almost Moon" is a similiar story, only more reflection of madness. The audio book is read by actress, Joan Allen - a fantastic choice. I'm loyal to anything from Sebold because her vocabulary is lyrical and emotional connections are bittersweet. I love sad movies and sad stories, and Sebold recognizes the attraction we have to that type of story. I loved this book.

Book Review: Shocking
Summary: 5 Stars

I was shocked while reading this book. Here is the first line: "When all is said and done, killing my mother came easily." It took me almost 3 weeks to finish this book - granted it is not a good holidays with family type of read. Excellent writing. Pulled me right in. But I could only read a handful of pages at a times, and had to put it down and come back to it. There are images that will stay with me a long time. It is such an insightful look at the parent-child relationship across generations. Would highly recommend it.

Book Review: Stark raving madness...I LOVE IT!
Summary: 5 Stars

Who better to write a book about a dark theme and infuse humor into it...ALICE SEBOLD! I loved THE LOVELY BONES and then her memoir LUCKY...so when my mother said she read a book and it was really weird and thought I might like it (I guess she was telling me I am weird) and I found out Sebold authored it I was ready to read and climbed right into the story with all its contrived madness and zaniness and I loved every word of it. BRAVO! Can't wait to see what Alice comes up with next...bring it!

Book Review: Intense, grim yet unputdownable.
Summary: 5 Stars

Sebold is able to conquer writing about such henious subjects, yet keeps the reader floating above watching the story unfold. A dysfunctional
family, a daughter distruaght with rage yet full of love. One of the
very best psychological fictions I have read in a long time. Deeply
provocative, even funny at times. When you read the first sentence
you are captivated. The last sentence will leave you unable to forget
this beautifully told story. 10 stars!

Book Review: Excellent Service and Condition
Summary: 5 Stars

The people I ordered this from were one of the best I've ordered from,. This book came within 3 days of purchase and without special shipping. It also came on a day when I was wishing I already had it in my hands.

Alice Sebold is my favorite writer. Melodie Beatty falls second to her. I think Ms. Sebold's books are brilliant as well as imaginative. Can't wait for her next one...God only knows what that one will be about!
