Book Review: Excellent intro to the blues
Summary: 5 Stars
First, it's helpful to know that this book focuses on the blues, rather than a broader introduction to fingerstyle playing. If you want to play more of a folk-style or soft-rock-style fingerstyle guitar, try Mark Hanson's The Art of Contemporary Travis Picking. But if you love acoustic blues, this is your ticket. I like this book the best of the introductory blues books I've tried, because it teaches through (simplified) versions of real songs, gradually building in complexity, each one designed to teach you a new technique. The song selection is great and represents a range of rural blues styles. I also strongly recommend Stefan Grossman as a teacher of acoustic blues, but this book starts a little simpler than the Grossman books and DVD's I have, so for the true novice it's better to get at least a few of these songs under your fingers before starting in on the Grossman materials.
