How do you get a book about food and nutrition to be entertaining, brilliant, and readable? You hire this guy to write it! I've LOVED Jonny Bowden's past books like "Living the Low Carb Life" and I love his writing on iVillage because he makes complicated stuff really simple without talking down to the audience- yet he has all the science to back it up. and he's funny! how often do you see that in a nutrition and health writer? Not so much! This book isn't like any other food book I've ever seen. for one thing, he busts myths about foods that we all think are healthy all the time (i.e. soy and canola oil). for another thing, he finally explains all the differences between terms like organic, free range, grass fed and all the rest that i've never completely understood. And for a third, he doesn't just tell you that a food is healthy and you should eat it- he tells you WHY, what's in it, what it does, and why you should care. and he tells you in typical Jonny style, with funny stories, anecdotes, history items and nutritional facts. I am just in love with this book, I've never seen one like it. Best thing about it, you don't have to read it from cover to cover. You can just open anywhere and look around- you'll always find something interesting. Oh one more thing- did you happen to notice the "who's who" of people who raved about this book on the inside cover? That alone should tell you something. And I love that he doesn't sound like all these party-line dietitians telling us the same tired stuff. Great job, great book!
