Book Review: Well-written but Shallow
Summary: 3 Stars
Despite the excellent reviews that this book received, I found it technically well-written but somewhat shallow. I understand that the the sensibility of suburbia in the 1960's is the image it seeds to evoke, but the image is barren of depth, as though the story's locale permits a certain depth to be omitted. Something is missing. Though the words flow, the story didn't touch this reader.
Basically, this novel is about Sheryl and Rick, two teen-aged lovers - - Rich gets Sheryl pregnant and Sheryl is sent away to have the baby. Rick and his friends storm Sheryl's house looking for her and have a suburban gang fight with all the neighborhood men. 'That Night' is what the book focuses on as seen from the eyes of an 11 year old girl.
Summary of That Night
