Book Review: Better than the last one

I have the earlier version of Teach Yourself Visually Knitting and Crocheting, which I think is now called the Maran Guide to Knitting (?) and I received this version from my mom as a gift. I thought that it would be the same book as the old one with a few changes, but it's a totally different book, written by a new author. And it's so much better than the old one, which is so ugly that it's almost unbearable to use. This is really new AND improved.
It's really well organized, and presents the lessons and information in a logical order. There are some very interesting finishing techniques that are usually just given a mention in other books, and they're shown here in depth so you can really learn how to do them. I have been wanting to learn different buttonholes and I think there are about eight pages of just buttonholes! Every page has at least 5 or 6 color photos accompanying the lessons, so it's very clear all around.
This book doesn't teach crocheting like the last one, but I think they should be in a separate book anyway. Everything you need to know is pretty much in here, even if you're a more experienced knitter. It shows both English and Continental style knitting, and there is a chapter about circular knitting. There's a library of stitch patterns and lace, two chapters just on finishing, and two chapters of good projects for all levels of knitters. There is also a chapter about fun embellishments you can add to your knitting, and they're each described with step by step directions.
