Book Reviews of Taxi: The Harry Chapin StoryBook Review: Harry Chapin Life Story - A Must Read for a serious fan Summary: 5 Stars
I still am a Chapin fan; always will be. Saw him dozens of times in concert in CT, NY, NJ. Met him and the band. There will never be another one like him. This book is a MUST read for serious Chapin fans. The life he and his brothers had - with stepfathers, each other, family - how poor they were - the various jobs Harry had - the various women - really completed so much of what I didn't know about Harry. I'm half way through this book and cannot put it down. It fills in the cracks - everything from his middle name to the story (and woman) behind the "Taxi" songs. It even describes and explains other songs, such as Old College Avenue and The Mayor of Candor Lied. Now I even know the details of how Harry died - - and it is not what I thought had happened to him. Bursting with little known facts ... truly a must read for anyone whose life has been touched by this great man.
Book Review: as close to real as it gets, a must for the HC fan! Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent writing, it traces the life of the world's greatest story teller. From birth in 1943, to his tragic death in 1981, no man ever did more for the society in which he lived, than Harry Chapin. Peter Coan tells the story well. From the good times to the bad times and back to the good times, its all there. It shows the man, as well as the myth, that is Harry Chapin.
Book Review: Captivating story of an unrivaled humanitarian Summary: 5 Stars
Harry Chapin lived his music. From the heartbreaks of his life came such beautiful songs as TAXI and SHOOTING STAR. He gave of himself to any orgainzation that needed a helping hand, and was an unparalleled troubadour. A must for fans who want to know the stories behind the music.
