Book Reviews of Tao of Jeet Kune DoBook Review: A Book For Philosophers and Martial Artists Alike! Summary: 5 Stars
Bruce Lee, as a philosopy major in college, provides us with some excellent pointers for everyday living as well as for martial arts training in this book. I read this book while studying Eastern philosophy and I just could not believe how well Lee was able to apply the ancient philosophies of Taoism to everyday living.Note that this book was not meant to teach you the art of Jeet Kun Do, per se. Rather, Lee's intention for writing this book was to give his readers a general philosophy as well as a basis to train for any fighting system. He also discloses his mind for the world to inspect. Lee has diligently lived his philosophy in everything he does, from accepting challenges from fighters around the world to dealing with family problems. His philosophy is one of peace and flexibility. It is one philosophy that we could all learn a little from.
Book Review: All type of knowledge... Summary: 5 Stars
...ultimately means self-knowledge, according to Bruce. And if that is so, then a person can learn a lot about themselves by reading Bruce's notes. Here is proof that this man was amazing mentally as well as physically. Not only did he have the spirit of a dragon, he had its wisdom as well. (Please note: in Chinese culture the dragon is not looked upon as a threat, it is considered to be a symbol of strong will and high intellect.) These notes are only the tip of Lee's iceberg. All his years of training led to what was written in this book, and his techniques were still growing and improving right up until his untimely death. It's a shame he went so young, but like his widow Linda has said "he lived for 32 years and died on one day." So do yourself a favor: pick up this book and pay attention to 31 years, 364 days of an amazing, triumphant life.
Book Review: Jeet Kune Do Summary: 5 Stars
This book is amazing. It is filled with the subtle ideas that Bruce Lee created on his own, about an art that he created on his own. Whether you know martial arts or not this book this book needs to be read. It might inspire you to join martial arts, or just simply enjoy the insiteful thoughts of a legend. If you are looking to use this book as a tool to learn martial arts or teach yourself, you might find it difficult. Obviously Bruce Less studied for many years in the art of gung fo before writing this book. If you have never taken martial arts before you might not understand some of the things that are talked about. I myself have never taken martial arts, and there are somethings I do not understand, but overall I feel more enriched after reading. Take the time for this one, it will not dissappoint.
Book Review: Fundamentally great Summary: 5 Stars
The Tao of Jeet Kune Do has to me one of the best books to teach you the fundamentals of the art of JKD (Bruce Lee's martial art concept). Bruce Lee has certainly been able to harness the best techniques from various martial arts and combine them into a simple yet effective form known as JKD. In a step by step account, Bruce Lee shows your how to properly prepare and perform alot the movements in JKD. Along with words, he includes a visual description of the movement and shows how to get the most out of each motion. He also teaches you that the size of the person doesnt matter but its the technique that always counts. This book is great for people of all ages and is a must for any Bruce Lee fan. Whether you are just a reader or an avid martial artist, I am sure you will like it.
Book Review: Great philosophy by the Legend Summary: 5 Stars
Bruce Lee is absolutly a genious and a great insperation. I am studying Tae Kwon Do and got as far as the green belt, soon to be a blue stripe. My progress has been tromendous. I purchased this book, purely out of curiousity. Once I picked it up, I just could not put it down. The philosophy, techniques, various movement and sparring explanations are facinating. I can deffinetly see myself improve just from following the techniques and methods, which Bruce describes. I am more then positive, that I will read this book again in the future. It is a guide to anyone, who is serious about martial arts. Even if you are not interested in JKD, it is still one of the best referrences, I have read so far. Bruce is deffinetly one of the greatest people that ever lived.
