Mya and Diamond are friends to the end. Growing up in the projects they were as thick as thieves. Who knew that's what they would turn into as adults? Mya wants top dog status in the ATL drug game and is prepared to get there by any means necessary. Diamond, wants to finish hair school and own a salon. Mya decides to put Diamond down with her hustle to get money. She teaches Diamond how to pick out the top dog in a crew, and to use her sex appeal to lure him in and get all his possessions at the end of the night.
With their biggest set up to date, Mya puts Diamond on her target but doesn't tell Diamond everything she knows about him but hopefully just enough to get him for half of what he's worth. When the plan goes wrong all hell breaks loose.
I must say I was very pleased with this story. The plot was well put together and the drama had you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what in the world Mya would do next. Good luck to Ms. Ridley in the future; she truly has a talent for story telling.
1. What did you like best about this book?
What I like best about the book was the fact that all the characters were fully developed. Each chapter made you want to know what was going to happen next, she didn't leave any stone unturned and that made it a more interesting read.
2. What did you dislike about this book?
Honestly, I didn't dislike anything at all. It was put together and told really well.
3. How can the author improve this book?
The only thing that the author can be careful of in future novels is the repetitiveness. I don't think authors have to constantly say the same thing over and over as if the reader forgot it from one of the previous chapters.
Summary of Talk of the Town
Diamond and Mya are best friends, who grew up in the one of the worst hoods in ATL. Both are determined to have it all, and soon become two of the dirty south s most notorious women. Getting money is their top priority, by robbing every hustler that crosses their path; but both women have different goals. Mya wants to be the next ghetto superstar. She results to sex and violence to reach her goal as she stalks every man with swollen pockets. Nothing will stand in her way of becoming the girl who runs ATL. Diamond has dreams of owning her own hair salon, so she becomes Mya s partner in crime, and makes the transition from stylist to thief; but their friendship will be put to the test when Diamond meets Scottie, a wealthy white boy, who becomes her next score.
