Book Reviews of Taking Charge of Your Fertility, 10th Anniversary Edition: The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement, and Reproductive HealthBook Review: the most empowering thing I've ever done! Summary: 5 StarsI have used fertility monitoring for 13 years to NOT get pregnant. I had been on the pill and it killed by libido (a common side affect no one talks about) and my general passion for life. Low dose hormones just made my entire life flat. In 1994 it was very difficult to find decent, informative information out there about how to use natural birth control methods. I pieced together what I could from what was available at the time. A few years later I saw this book and, "WOW!", Toni has done such a fabulous job of really including all the information you need in a very clear, articulate manner. This is the only book to use! I have now been successfully not pregnant using fertility monitoring for over 13 years. When I do want to get pregnant, I know exactly what I need to do! The most interesting thing that has been a result of fertility monitoring is that by knowing exactly when I can or can't get pregnant, it became the most empowering thing I have ever done in my entire life! Talk about a powerful woman! I truly have the power to choose! I feel like I had been brainwashed into thinking that once I had reached a certain age, was in a certain relationship, that I should be on the pill. By not teaching us women about how amazing and powerful our bodies are, by not allowing us to truly choose when or if we can have sex or get pregnant, I think we have been profoundly disempowered. Toni has presented accurate, easy information that really make the choice of birth control and pregnancy so accessible and easy to all of us.
Many women think they know when they are fertile, but when I start asking them if they follow fertility monitoring rules or charting they have no idea what I am talking about. I tell them need to get Toni's book to actually educate themselves about the topic instead of pretending they know. This is the most comprehensive and user-friendly book on subject! Every women should read this book!
Book Review: This book helped me get pregnant fast! Summary: 5 StarsThis book was GREAT... it was very informative & educational without being boring at all, it was humorous at times and comforting at others. I loved the tone of the book and the layout as well. It has sections specifically for the reader who is TRYING to conceive, as well as for the reader who is looking for a natural, hormone free method of birth control.
Before reading, I just couldn't understand why it was taking us so long to conceive our first. Before I had gotten very far in the book, I realized how little I actually knew about the female reproductive process and when and how things take place! Needless to say, I felt a little sheepish, but since I just got a BFP last week, I have to say that the info in the book definitely had something to do with it!
I think it should be required reading and possibly even a high school class for all teenage girls. It is a shame how misinformed teens are about sexuality and their bodies. Like many women in the book, I too made way too many trips to the doctor's office, thinking something was wrong with me when I was actually only ovulating!
I plan to hold on to this book and pull it out again when I need to start using contraception again... Never again the pill for me, now that I know how to track my temperatures and body signs to analyze current fertility.
I HIGHLY recommend this book, no matter if you're trying to achieve or avoid pregnancy, or even just get to know your body's workings a bit better!
Book Review: Lots of good information Summary: 5 StarsI purchased my own copy of this book after the friend who lent me hers wanted her copy back. I use this book, not because I'm trying to get pregnant (or avoid getting pregnant, for that matter), but because it's important to me that I really get to know my own body, how it works and what its processes are and what it's doing from day to day.
I can't vouch for the effectiveness in achieving or preventing conception, but if you as a woman are interested in getting in touch with your body and the amazing functions it performs throughout your cycle, then I would definitely recommend this book for you.
Book Review: Recommended Summary: 5 StarsI can't say enough good things about this book. I have been charting my cycles since the fall of 2005 with this book. We at first used it to avoid pregnancy and then used it to get pregnant. We are currently using it to avoid once again. I feel so much better about my body and am in tune with it that I don't need to chart to know when I will ovulate, get my period, or if something isn't right. You can definitely use this as birth control as long as you follow all of the rules. Or if you break them use a back up method. The book is easy to read and understand. There is also a website for charting questions/help. You can also keep your charts on your computer.
Book Review: Not just for baby planning - read now! Summary: 5 StarsYou don't need to be planning to get pregnant to read this. I wish I had read this in my 20's, but was so happy that I did a few months before I started trying. This method can be used for birth control and just to understand your body better. You will be happy to have this information for so many reasons and so happy that you starting thinking about your body (not just your fertility). I would recommend it to anyone 18+, and wish there was a version for younger women with all the meaningful information about your body and cycle.
