Book Reviews of Taking Charge of Your Fertility, 10th Anniversary Edition: The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement, and Reproductive Health

Book Review: Wonderful Book!
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a wonderful and informative book. My husband and I were set on using natural birth control when we got married, and weren't quite sure of the specifics. Originally, we got a book on NFP (very similar to the FAM method described in this book). The information was very similar, but this book was so much easier to read and understand. We thought the charting and temperature taking would be too much, but we got used to it pretty quickly. The book also came with a computer program that I love, because it calculates everything for you, and even predicts your cycle (very accurately for me!). I would highly recommend this book to any couple who wants to avoid or achieve pregnancy. I have read many books and internet articles that have their information all wrong about your temperature and your fertile and infertile phases. Written by doctors none the less! Even more reason to READ THIS BOOK!

Book Review: Good & Bad depending on your needs & knowledge
Summary: 3 Stars

Good info to learn some basics. Lots of bias and assumptions.
I'm almost 34 years old and just got married a year ago. We're just thinking about starting to try and get pregnant. I heard raves, so I bought the book. THEN I came here and read some reviews... read through them - good and bad. Reading this book, I was thinking it would be nice to have a version w/out all the commentary! And as another reviewer mentioned, she made me panic for being 34 and TTC! Yet, a lot of the info was helpful. I bought it because I am worried that my irregular cycles will make it difficult to conceive... So it has taught me some things. BUT reading just some of the negative reviews and some middle of the road and some positive - has taught me just as much... Like a better way to prepare to talk to my doctor, and to realize and not discount what happens next if we can't conceive on our own... No two stories or opinions are the same... so read read read and listen to the little voice in your head!

Book Review: Amazing and empowering - this book changes lives
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is so empowering for women. Thanks to Taking Charge of Your Fertility, I was able to determine I probably had PCOS (which I did) and was finally able to get pregnant after years of trying to conceive. I was even able to determine that I was probably having a girl when I was only three weeks pregnant! (I have a two-year-old daughter now.) I've used the TCOYF method for pregnancy avoidance since my daughter was born as well.

I have a friend who was unable to get pregnant after a few months of trying. She's a therapist for pregnant teenagers and she counsels them on birth control and taking care of their bodies, but she hardly knew anything about the mechanics of fertility until she read this book. I loaned her a copy, and a couple of months later she was happily pregnant and a lot more knowledgeable.

I recommend this book to my good friends who are open to learning more about their cycles, whether trying to avoid pregnancy or achieve it. Certainly not every woman is interested in learning these things, usually because they can get pregnant easily or they're content to go on the pill/patch and not think about fertility. This is a book for women who are truly curious about the amazing functions of their bodies or have had problems they and/or their doctors don't understand.

After practically memorizing this book, I've learned that I'm more knowledgeable than my doctors about my cycle and my fertility. I feel empowered by the book, but at the same time frustrated that medical professionals often won't take the time to see the value of what this book teaches.

Book Review: So much information!
Summary: 5 Stars

I learned more about my body in the first 3 chapters than I ever learned in biology or from that stupid movie in the 5th grade. This will totally expand your understanding of the female body and how it works. I highly recommend it for all women, not just those seeking to get pregnant or find a natural method of birth control (though, those are additional perks of the book!).

Book Review: Good info, but a little long to get to the point
Summary: 3 Stars

Several of my friends swore by this book, but no one warned me that it was completely hippie. I am an accountant, so the charting exercises are something I would normally like and understand quickly. It took several chapters of background to get to the point and the quotes and stories were from some of the most inobservant women in the world about their bodies. Also, quotes like "Charting is a priviledge" drove me crazy. No - it is a pain, but a good way to know timing. Anyway, I would love an abbreviated form of this book with real sized charts you could use right away (rather than having to get them copied and enlarged). Overall - good information in an irritating format.
