Book Review: Close to home...
Summary: 3 Stars
Renee and Tag are lovely characters; their situation seems very probable. I know they can be real from personal experience which is why I wanted to read this story; when I finally got to do so, it sizzled, then fizzled, then sizzle some more...the storyline moved faster than the characters so that they were not as defined as others I have read in the [Elliotts] series. Tag's desire for Renee was rather plausible but vice versa, it seemed a little hollow. I wanted to feel depth and more history as to why each of these people would go those extra miles for each other. Lets face it, an interracial/ multi-racial affair in America means doing extra hard because, as in the book,-which I thought could have been explored more-, it is thought that the "exoticness" & novelty of dating a person that doesn't look like you will one day wear off. I am happy to see that Renee was not exactly the caricature of African-American women: colorful language, full of attitude, and many girlfriends who are party happy. Tag is the quintessential contemporary Caucasian American male with money, going after what he wants without any inhibitions. 1 star for Tag; 1 for Renee not being a caricature; 1 for some hot and heavy situations...another half will go to Jackson's easy reading form: 3.5 of 5
