Book Reviews of Swine Not?: A Novel Pig TaleBook Review: What a disappointment! Summary: 2 Stars
I was excited about another Jimmy Buffett novel, but Swine Not? was a total disappointment! I don't know what audience this book was intended for, but it had absolutely nothing for me.
Book Review: Swine Not? NOT Summary: 2 Stars
This one is definitely not up to standard with the others. While it was semi-alright, I would not have read this if it did not have Jimmy Buffett's name on it.
Book Review: Hmmmm....I was expecting more Summary: 2 Stars
I was expecting a little more - I honestly couldn't get in to the book.
Book Review: Swhy? Summary: 1 Stars
I'm a big Buffett fan - own dozens of recordings and all of his other non-children's books, but this one was a big disappointment.
It should have been marketed for pre-teen readers - it was a like a Disney story.
It is very thick with hyperbole - extremely talented twins, perfectly adjusted to their parents' divorce and excelling in every thing they do (he doesn't just play soccer - he's the star of the team, she doesn't just like fashion - she's a designer and seamstress of epic proportions, the mother isn't just a chef - she draws the attention of the whole world).
The villian is even very Disney-esque, and the further the story goes, we learn that all animals (except for humans) communicate fluently with each other. Every character gets their own dream happy ending.
I would recommend this book for young readers. I would encourage Amazon and other bookstores to move it out of the adult fiction category.
Book Review: Swine Not? 'Cause It Was Boring! Summary: 1 Stars
First of all, I'm a parrot head, so I guess it was required reading. With 40+ CD's in my collection, Buffett's music is an integral part of my emotional survival kit. I have also found some of his other books enjoyable.
Having said that, this book was amazingly boring, requiring substantial will power to make it to the finish. I could possibly see some appeal to pre-teen female readers, and there's nothing in it that would be unsuitable for that age group. For adult audiences, this book offers absolutely nothing that the Jimmy Buffett aura promises to deliver.
This book should have been targeted toward a youth market. In that arena, it could have been well received, and deservingly so. Aimed at an adult market, it's only apparent purpose can be to pluck a few more dollars from his large band of devoted followers.
