Book Reviews of Sunrise Over South AfricaBook Review: A grat educational and entertaining book Summary: 5 Stars
A very educational and entertaining book. I like the tips and advice they provided for most of the places they visited in SA. It looks like the authors have an in depth knowledge of South Africa and that gave them an idea of what to look for. As an African American person who lived half of my life in Africa this book brought back some childhood memories of my African life. A well documented guide book with great references for anyone who has plan to visit Africa.
Summary of Sunrise Over South Africa
Sunrise over South Africa: Travel/Memoir
Jackie and Derick Savage embark on their first journey to South Africa where they have no idea of the twists and turns their journey will take. Like most travelers who have never seen or experienced South Africa firsthand, the only images they know are the ones portrayed by the media-usually negative. Their 2-day, 22 hour flight from San Francisco via London begins on the heels of Hurricane Katrina so it is not until two days after the hurricane that they even know it occurred. And when they do see the news footage, the news is broadcast in Afrikaans and Xhosa, two languages that Jackie and Derick do not know. And they prove that no matter how much you prepare for an exotic journey to another country, sometimes no amount of immunizations will keep you from picking up foreign bugs. As most people expect, the idea of travel is to learn and grow from the experience and the people of the country. Sunrise over South Africa provides this experience and opportunity to learn and grow for all readers.
