Book Reviews of Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives

Book Review: Gorgeous, thought-provoking gem
Summary: 5 Stars

I adored this book. Each little story (the word used loosely) provides a different possible answer to what happens when we die. They are fascinating, very well written, moving, disturbing, intriguing. If you're unsure of what the afterlife consists of, if anything, it's worth reading as food for thought. Some reviewers seem to have expected this to be a nonfiction answer by a neuroscientist. Understand that it's a highly creative, philosophical, whimsical, fictional examination of life and death and deity. A wonderful work of art.

Book Review: Very special book
Summary: 5 Stars

Read 2-4 of these stories a day, and by the end of a week or two, you will be enchanted.

The author is so inventive with his topic, and takes such a varied approach, I cannot imagine anyone not enjoying this collection.

If you are a person of faith, read this book. If you aren't a person of faith, read this book. If you are young, read this book. If you are old, read this book.

It's like ordering an ice-cream cone, and finding that every lick is a different, and delicious flavor.

Book Review: Clever and profound
Summary: 5 Stars

A wonderful collection of brief musings on various possibilities of our situation after death. I loved this book so much, I bought several to pass along to family and friends. It is a reminder to all that no one knows absolutely what the afterlife might be, so none ought to ridicule or be intolerant of others' beliefs. Even the silliest scenarios have layers of thought and reasoning within them and are all the richer for their brevity. This book is both funny and profound, and I highly recommend it.

Book Review: A rather unique read
Summary: 5 Stars

Sum is an unusual, if not unique, type of book. You are probably already aware of the premise of the book: forty short 'riffs' on what the afterlife might be like, and why. Each one is around a page and a half. They read like film treatments, which turns out to be very engaging. The ultra-short story format, with a narrator/tour guide/screen play writer perspective, prompts me to fill in the blanks suggested by the story. A great way to engage a reader's imagination.

Highly recommended

Book Review: Live your life now!
Summary: 5 Stars

Excellent short stories about life even thought all content is about after life. Very well written and each story has a good message to tell you about the life you in fact are living now. As a non-English reader the English language can be somewhat diffucult in some stories as there are many special words that exactly describes what the author means. However, this does not cause any obastacles to read the book.
