Book Reviews of the State of FearCustomer Review: The characters ruin the story! Summary: 1 Stars
I've always liked Michael Crichton. And I have always enjoyed books with a scientific or historical dialogue behind them, like Andromeda Strain, or a Robin Cook novel. This book definitely has a scientific dialogue, and it's obvious which way Crichton leans. Leaving your opinion of whether he is right or wrong out of it, and just evaluating the story though - absolutely awful. I couldn't find a single character to root for. Evans is a whiny, snivelling wimp. A guy has already nearly murdered him, and he's shocked that they might have guns. Really? Sarah is judgemental and full of herself. I could almost like Kenner. He's a know it all, but completely unrealistic in his expectation that a lawyer & personal assistant just drops everything and goes to stop terrorists. Really? There wasn't a single other government (TRAINED) agent who could go against people with guns?
I like to learn something, while being entertained but this book is more like listening to a scientific dissertation while someone runs their fingernails down a chalkboard.
