Book Reviews of StardustBook Review: A Great Modern Fairy Tale Summary: 4 Stars
I'm familiar with Gaiman's work, but this was the first of his solo novels I've read (I read Good Omens, which he did with Terry Pratchett) and I was pleasently surprised.
I saw the film version first and was surprised (well, not really) to find that the film version differs greatly from the book. But both are enjoyable in their own ways (I have a feeling the changes for the film were made to cater to the American audience).
I highly recommend this book, it has a great mix of humor, myth, and fairy tale fun.
Book Review: I prefer Disney and the like Summary: 4 Stars
I read the book after watching the movie, and I have to admit I was a little disappointed. The movie is appropriate for young audiences, more of a family entertainment sort of thing, but I LIKED that. It was more pretty colors and sparkles. The book reminded me more of the old, orginal Grimm tales: dark and deadly. As far as basics go, most of the characters are pretty much the same, and it's mostly the same story. But the tone is very different, and the book's ending was less satisfying for a Disney-lover like myself.
Book Review: Could have been a great YA book Summary: 4 Stars
This was a fun, quick read with a pretty original story. If he hadn't have put the sex scene and some of the gore in, though, it would have been a perfect YA book. I'm not one to tell someone how to write, but between the stuff that made this book clearly an "adult" book, it read exactly like a young adult book.
Book Review: Stardust Summary: 4 Stars
I was so surprised by this book. It was not what I thought it would be. It was a fun read. I do not recommend it for children under 12, but older kids will GET IT! His visuals are very real, and you can see the colors. I enjoyed this trip. I will read other books by this author.
Book Review: Great read! Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this after seeing and loving the movie. I pored through it in about a day! While different from the movie in a lot of ways, I found the book to be just as good and interesting. This is a great read, and totally worth, buying and keeping.
