Book Review: Alan Dean Foster's ghost

This was a great read. I read this book as a kid, however, once I started my hardcover star wars collection I decided to repurchase this novel.
I LOVE how this book opens up with a 'quote' from a historian telling how Palpatine was a good man who was pushed into creating the corrupt Empire by evil and greedy senators and imperial lords. It gave a great feel to me of how people were mislead to blame the Moff's and Lord Vader for the conditions of the galaxy.
Of course there are many differences in the book from the movie. Being written before any other episode, and before all the new books, many characters and races were not fully fleshed out. I do not feel this really matters. This is a wonderful telling of the story and any differences in character descriptions or name spellings is unimportant.
Remember, this is a story written by Alan Dean Foster from the script that George Lucas showed him.

Luke Skywalker was a twenty-year-old who lived and worked on his uncle's farm on the remote planet of Tatooine...and he was bored beyond belief. He yearned for adventures that would take him beyond the farthest galaxies. But he got much more than he bargained for...."'I want to come with you to Alderaan,' Luke said, resolved. 'I want to become a Jedi like my father.'" This marks the start of Luke Skywalker's involvement with the Rebellion in George Lucas's grand narrative of good versus evil, Star Wars. You know the story, you've seen the film--but this chunky little book is a real gem.
