Book Reviews of Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the GalaxyBook Review: Not like pop-ups of the old days Summary: 5 Stars
Got this at the last minute for my 4-year-old son without actually looking through it (I know, bad parent!), but was pleasantly surprised by the ridiculously complex paper mechanisms that make this pop-up book work. The painterly artwork style is also quite unique and works well throughout. My only wish is that there were more pages (I think there's about 10-12 spreads) but each page usually has a secondary flap or smaller pop-up surprise. You'll have tons of fun opening and closing the pages to make the characters and creatures look like they're moving, fighting, biting, flying, etc. Not to ruin a surprise, but this book even has batteries! Kids younger than 4 might ruin the pages by accidentally tearing certain pop-up mechanisms, but the paper stock is fairly rigid and I haven't had any problems yet.
Book Review: A Great Kids Intro to the Original 3 Films Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my nephews, 3 and 7, and they love it. Even though their (good) parents won't let them watch Star Wars yet, they love being introduced to all these characters through this book.
The pop-ups are intricate and amazing. The multiple layers within layers on just one page is evidenced by the thickness of this book. The pop-ups cascade out to reveal a surprising number of characters from the original trilogy. Luke's boyhood friend Wedge is even in there.
The artwork is true art - reproductions of watercolor. The pop-ups aren't always true to form (the Death Star looks kind of like a squashed ping pong ball) but come on - it's a pop-up!
Great introductory Star Wars brainwashing. Highly recommended.
Book Review: Most amazing book Summary: 5 Stars
Star Wars: A Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy We gave this book as a birthday present to our 6 year old grandson. We were a bit concerned because the pop-ups are very architectural and have amazing detail. We were afraid it might be too complicated for our young grandson. It wasn't!! He absolutely loved the book! His father also went crazy over it. It is the kind of book that can be appreciated by a 6 year old or a 60 year old. This book is an absolute work of art and the pop-ups are amazing! Some of them are so complicated, it must have taken an engineer to figure out how to make them work. You will want to keep this book forever.
Book Review: Simply spectacular. A guaranteed pleasure for all ages... Summary: 5 Stars
If you haven't picked up a pop-up book recently, you will be flat-out amazed at the artistry of this book.
My nearly-five year old boy and I paged through this lovely book slowly, regaling in each impossibly detailed scene or figure. We'd "oooh" and "aaaah" like we were watching a firework show!
There are big pop-ups, little side pop-ups, pop-ups-within-a-pop-up...
I don't want to spoil ALL the surprises, but the final Darth Vader/Luke Skywalker page made us BOTH go,
"Whoa."
We both looked at each other, seeing matching huge smiles on our faces...
Don't read anymore of these reviews...just get this book! A guaranteed pleasure for all ages...
Book Review: Unbelievable Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this book for my nephew who just turned 7. He had recently seen his first Star Wars movie and seemed to enjoy it. When he opened this book, he was excited, but no where near as excited as when he turned the first page and saw what it contained. He was mesmerized, not only by the pop ups, but by the pictures and the stories behind each item. This is the ultimate Star Wars bible. If you love Star Wars, you have to have this item. The item I thought he would like the best were the light up sabers, and he did. The most amazing part was that the battery power to the sabers could be turned off so that you didn't waste it!!!! How thoughtful. Too bad there aren't more books of this caliber on other subjects.
