Book Reviews of Star Trek Movie Tie-InBook Review: Great Adaptation by writer who should be writing more Trek Summary: 5 Stars
This book adds to the already great movie. If you want to read more details on how Jim Kirk became the captain, this book is for you. I wish Alan Dean Forster was allowed to pen more of these books. I read all his animated series adaptations when I was a kid. This is the author who wrote the first screenplay to Star Trek:The Motion Picture. Originally it was a plot for the Genesis II series by Roddenberry.
The characters are all seen through a new filter and I hope that ADF gets a chance to write original stories in this new universe.
Book Review: EXCELLENT. Summary: 5 Stars
It's Allen Dean Foster, what more can I say? I practically grew up reading this guy way back when he wrote "Alien".AND a very BIG thank you to the first reviewer-YES..this is an alternate time-line.Oh sweet oh sweet STAR TREK LIVES!
Book Review: Trek Movie!!! Summary: 5 Stars
If any one has seen the movie they need to read the book. The book follows the movie good plus tells more to the story well written.
Book Review: Star Trek-the rest of the story Summary: 4 Stars
I wish this had been available *before* the movie came out. I was eagerly checking the stores but I didn't find it until a week or so later. It answers so many of the questions that popped up during the movie but that were lost in the endless action.
It would have been easier to understand some things in the movie if the book had been out first, but I would recommend to anyone who has seen the movie, even more than once, that they read this. You will be better able to appreciate what is going on and *why*, something I sometimes found confusing while watching.
It was a worthwhile read, but it was *not* worth the inflated size and price. Every other movie tie-in for ST that I have purchased and read was a normally sized and priced book, and I saw no reason to nearly double the price on this one. And there weren't even any pictures from the movie, which would have at least justified the extreme price increase.
Book Review: Pretty good novelization Summary: 4 Stars
I saw the movie first, THEN read the book to see if it filled in any gaps. I thought the movie was absolutely awesome, though I'm still not sure about how I feel about the "reboot" of the Star Trek universe. It's a brilliant idea, but I'm not sure how I feel about it. What about all this history I know...
But I digress. I liked this book. I've always liked Alan Dean Foster - he's a competent writer, but the fun in reading his work is that he's so enthusiastic about it. This book was quite faithful to the movie, which either means ADF got all the new bits as they were filming or editing, or JJ Abrams didn't deviate much from the script that ADF was given. Whatever - it wasn't a letdown after seeing the movie.
This is a solid 4 stars, maybe even a smidge more, like 4.2. It's quick, engaging, and actually follows the movie. It adds a little to the characters, but not much needed adding.
