Book Review: Very nice, but not the perfect reference.
Summary: 5 Stars

I know that this is essentially a resource book for the Star Blazers Fleet Battle game, but considering the high level of technical detail on all of the spaceships in the Star Blazers universe it makes a great reference book for fans of the show. This books covers fighter craft, capitol ships, shuttles, cargo ships and more from all sides of the epic series. You get a respectable amount of technical specs as well as a brief design history. Not only do you get ship data but also a few more nice extras:

- Details histories of the Gamilons, the Comet Empire and Earth forces up to end of the television series.

- Detailed description of wave motion technology.

- Fleet tactics and formations for all of the forces (allies and opponents)

Best thing is this book doesn't read like a game book. You don't see game stats or rules anywhere on this guide. It reads more like a military manual than anything else. Much of the book covers battle formation and tactics to the point where it seems unbalanced. Considering there are so many pages dedicated to fleet tactics it would have been nice to lose some of those pages and get additional or more detailed deck plans from the various ships instead. As it stands I believe all you get is a quick and simple level plan of the Yamato.

Now with all this good stuff I do recognize some downsides to this book for the die hard Star Blazers fan. Mainly the lack of any other information aside from the ships. It would be nice to have at least a small dossier of all the major players in the series. It also would have been nice to see other technologies mentioned like sidearms, robots and other little things not ship related. I know. This is a book related to a game about ship battles, but it still would be nice considering we have a pretty official book here. Is it canon? I haven't been able to confirm any rock solid endorsements, but I did find enough evidence of collaboration with the series creative team (or at least approval from them) to say this is the real deal.

If you are a fan of Star Blazers and love those ships and want to get more into that universe this is the book to get.

Its 204-pages are packed with hundreds of drawings and technical schematics for every single spaceship and battle machine seen in the entire television series.
