Book Review: Read as an adult--important and well written

I won't repeat the more than 1,000 reviews here, but I will just say that I read this book as an adult and was blown away. It was a quick read and I couldn't put it down. This was the first time I have read a book by this author and she made a profound first impression--I will now be reading all of Laurie Halse Anderson's books!Book Review: So, so good

So, so good. This YA novel is told from the point of view of a girl who becomes an outcast the summer before she starts high school. She's so bitter and withdrawn that it's obvious she's in pain for some reason--and not just because she's lonely. I think any teenage girl (or boy, for that matter) would do well to read this book.Book Review: Speak no longer speaks to anyone in the school.

When I got the original Accelerated Reader set Speak was one of the books. Well, it "disappeared" as can happen with really good books. One of the teachers recommended the book and that's when I found it missing, so I ordered another one.
It is really well liked by teachers and students (middle school).

All I can say is that every girl should read this book. It is clever, witty, heartbreaking. I laughed, I cried, I got angry...I took the journey with Melinda. It wasn't always a happy one, but it was an enlightening, and empowering one!

this novel is a great book and is able to illustrate the feelinfgs of some females after being raped. after one of my family member was raped she was silent as well. i feel that when she is older this book will be good for her, something she can relate to.
