Book Reviews of Speak (Platinum Edition)Book Review: Speak Review Summary: 5 Stars
My son, who will be a Freshman in the fall, had Speak as one of the summers required reading. I read it and found it to be well written. It is written from a teenage girls perspective. The girl calls the police at a party; and because of this all of the others turn against her during the next school year until they find out why she did it. It shows the reader that some people can be cruel to you and while it may be difficult at the time, you can survive it and things can turn around.
Book Review: Very important to read Summary: 5 Stars
I think this book should be required reading for all middle/high school students. This was at first a work for me to read because of the format it was written in. But well worth the effort. This story brings out many important issues we all need to be aware of and on the look out for. If you can't read the book it is also on DVD and portrayed very close to the book and very nicely done. I would also recommend seeing the movie even if you read the book. I got it from my library.
Book Review: a haunting, painful read Summary: 5 Stars
This book is painful, but then again, so is teenage life for many young people. Those who have felt alone, scared, confused and without a voice will not only feel Melinda's pain, but her triumph as she finally finds her voice. However, it is the people who never felt like her at all who need to read this book most of all. Maybe it will help them understand the trials that many of our young ones are going through so that we can find ways to show them that they are not alone.
Book Review: Great Book Summary: 5 Stars
This is a book my son had to read when he was in middle school. I read it after him so we could talk about it. He didn't get the "right to the heart" feeling like I did. His experience with high school was great, mine wasn't so I could relate. Every girl should read this book before starting high school because other than the main character's circumstances, this is what high school is.
Book Review: Speak Summary: 5 Stars
An instant classic for this generation. Speaks to anyone and everyone who has been a teenager, alienated, or alone. A powerful book, great writing. Would recommend this one to anyone with a teenager, any teens looking for someone who feels like they do, and anyone dealing with hard situations in life. A wonderful message of hope, and endurance, with touches of black humor.
