I had a copy of Avigail Azoulay's book the last time I took the TOPT but I didn't really look at it until the night before. Just that little bit helped me to understand what I really needed to do. This time around I have my own copy and I have a tutor from 1on1Spanish.net that goes through each function with me. I know that I could do it without her listening to me and correcting me, but the main thing is the study set. It gives you everything you need to pass the test. It's not exactly like it, but if you try all the practice items you'll be more than prepared the next time around and I know I will pass finally!!!
Summary of Spanish TOPT Study Set
The "Spanish TOPT Study Set" is a complete study set originally conceived for the preparation of the Texas Oral Proficiency Test. It was designed to help learners develop their oral proficency in the Spanish language in a fast and effective manner. The study set can also be used for any conversation class or independent work on the development of oral communication skills at intermediate to advanced levels. The set contains:1. A complete reference grammar, the "Spanish Grammar for Independent Learners" (2nd. edition).
2. The "Spanish TOPT Study Book." This book presents 15 communicative functions. For each function, it provides vocabulary, grammatical structures, discourse strategies, and practice situations. The TOPT Study Book also contains tips for independent learning, a TOPT Culture Guide with information on Hispanic Culture, and a few newspaper articles on topics relevant to the communicative functions.
3. Two audio-tapes accompany the "Spanish TOPT Study Book" and provide oral exercises for practice and reinforcement.
