Book Review: Painful to read, boring, and completely unfunny

Sadly, my fiance bought this piece of crap book on the recommendation of a friend, a few months after we learned she was pregnant. I love her tremendously, and it broke my heart to admit it, but I could not finish "So you're going to be a dad". Trust me, I tried. I read the first few chapters the night she got it, slogging through the doom and gloom, the awful writing, and the HORRID attempts at humor. I'm a person who prides myself on my sense of humor, and I laugh easily at nearly everything. I love the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, and appreciate well-written satire of all stripes. This "book" is an endless stream of facile, juvenile cliches trying too hard to be funny. It's also doing its best to convince the male reader that his life is going to be ruined by his child, and that all you can do is try to cope with and survive the ordeal.
Seriously, Peter Downey, screw you. My little guy was born a couple weeks ago, and he's everything I hoped for. He's beautiful, delicate, inspiring and a joy to hold and care for. Sure, he cries a lot during the night, and we're still getting a handle on a schedule, but it's just part of the journey. I'm tremendously thrilled he doesn't have a self-absorbed, arrogant, cornball prick like you for a father.
Oh yeah, and what's with the weird veiled Christian agenda that pervades this entire book like a sickness? There are constant references to Jesus and "The Lord" that are completely out of place, and seem like the author's poorly-veiled attempts to foist his religion on the reader. Take for example these excerpts:
"Topics People will always argue about:
1. What killed off the Dinosaurs?
2. Jesus Christ: Liar, lunatic, or Lord?
..."
and
"Have you ever seen a Christmas card where Jesus was crying? No! He is always asleep. What a deception! (Actually, I have friends who believe that this in itself is actually proof that Jesus was the Son of God. But I digress".
Avoid this book at all costs, and if you see someone browsing it at a bookstore, tell them to back away. It's garbage, zero stars.
