Book Reviews of Small Favor (The Dresden Files, Book 10)Book Review: Fast Paced and Mesmerizing Summary: 5 Stars
This latest Harry Dresden book is great. While it isn't hugely different from previous books (same basic theme), it avoids the usual sequel problems (e.g., too much carryover from previous books drowns reader in boring details, no real ending to the story just plod along on a giant plotline). "Small Favors" has a good rise & fall of plot, introduces new ideas, and the overall writing has been steadily improving over the series. Overall, I must say I'm impressed, and I really enjoyed reading it.
Book Review: Wonderful Summary: 5 Stars
Jim Butcher does yet another great job with his Dresden novels.
Great plot, great characterization, snappy dialogue, good mystery, plot twists, some of the funny -- what more could you ask for?
Oh wait. How about for the next one to be out sooner?
In all seriousness, this is a great series and anyone who has a thing for the noir/supernatural genre should be picking this series up. You will not be disappointed. I never am.
Book Review: 10 Strong Summary: 5 Stars
This is the 10th book in the Dresden File series, and Jim Butcher shows no sign of slowing down with Harry's adventures. This book pulls no punches, starting with the action almost immediately. We see Harry being attacked not only from two different groups of enemies, but his allies as well, causing a great deal of conflict throughout the story. New secrets, new enemies, and new takes on relationships make this a most excellent addition to the series.
Book Review: WOW Summary: 5 Stars
As usual, Butcher doesn't seem to understand the structure of fiction. You know how when you plod through a book and then the last 75 pages or so become action packed and exciting? This one starts that exciting end of the book pace on page 3 and keeps it up until you finish it breathlessly several hours later in a pool of sweat, surrounded by food bits and your family is complaining of your neglect. Or maybe that was just me? Fantastic book!
Book Review: Jim Butcher delivers once again Summary: 5 Stars
As always, Butcher delivers a fast and fun ride. Now 10 books long, The Dresden Files shows no signs of getting stale as so many series do by this point. There is an intriguing over-arching story line, but this book, like all the others in this series, stands on its on as a good read.
I'd also like to put a plug in for the Codex Alera series also by Jim Butcher. It is a slightly different type of story, but just as much fun.
