Book Review: Consent, ideas, and whipping oh my!

This book is excellent for anyone interested in BDSM! I really loved this book because he goes into detail and has a quite a bit of humor too! Another thing that to my mind made this book all the better was the fact that Wiseman continually makes an issue out of safetly and consent. I really liked that. In this day and age of AIDS and domestic violence awareness it is important that both players are safe and giving their consent freely. He makes an issue out of that, something that I know other writers have mentioned in passing. His descriptions of the right and wrong ways of doing things are superb. This book is a must read if you are interested in BDSM. My copy is marked up beyond belief with notes and a highlighter. If there was an actual class on BDSM, this would be the required text.Book Review: Novices need to read this, the Experted can learn too

I have a spiral bound copy of this book as well as this edition that I'm reviewing. The goal of the book is to make the novice safe -- usually the focus is on teaching the top partner but I think that the bottom partner could learn something too. This book won't make you safe, only practice and experience can do that, but it will give you basic guidelines on a very wide range of subjects so you can try things out slowly and with less risk. The overall feel is toward male top and female bottom (note please that the terms bottom and top or dom and sub are often refering to the same role) but there are sections specifically for other orientations and it written non-threatheningly so you can get value regardless of your role. As a newcomer to the bdsm "scene" I am looking for good information on more than just techniques. I am also trying to handle fear, anxiety, and other issues I can only guess at right now. For this, Jay's book is among the best I've read. Not only does he explain the "how" of bdsm, but the who, what, and why people get into this. To read about his own journey over many years has helped me relax and take my own next steps. I believe that anyone who is struggling with "coming out" with their "alternative" sexual expression should read this book right away. It will give you a map of the territory, which is not as scary as our culture leads us to believe, and lead you into what is hopefully a personal transformation.Book Review: Safety & Kink - This book's for you

I read SM 101 a while back and was very impressed with Jay's effort to explain the fun game (for some) and lifestyle (for some) of Safety while participating in Kinky games.
Last year, my husband and I got to hear Jay in person. He is not only a fun presenter, the explained his scientific basis of testing for safety as well as esthetics.
Last month I was going to look up a specific item of interest and ended up rereading parts of the book because some couples new to kink were getting and giving incorrect information. Tnis book is my reference when I need safety knowledge or want some great ideas to start a kinky new exploration.
SM 101 is perfect for the newby as well as the seasoned player. Enjoy.

I had felt a lot of confusion as to what exactly BDSM was and why were people so attracted to it. After reading this book I now see that the lifestyle can not only be safe but actually enjoyable for us 'vanilla' folks to look at and explore.
This book is a great serious introduction to common practices, SAFETY, how and where you can meet people with similar interests. Also how to tie someone up, what tools can be used be used that are common household items as well as what to buy if you want more serious BDSM equipment.
The biggest surprise to me is BDSM is not just about inflicting pain on someone else but about so much more. This book adds to new dimension to how ones life. Read it and find out 8-)....
