Book Reviews of Skinny BitchBook Review: I'm a Vegan and I have problems with this book Summary: 1 StarsI thought this book was a well done and creative effort to bring vegan related issues to the general public. It had a lot of style and was fun to read.
I'm a vegan. I've been a health nut, nutrition buff, and a vegetarian since my teen years. I thought the nutrition information in this book was simply wrong. I wanted to like this book and I did enjoy the sections of it that did not deal with nutrition.
If you want solid information on how minimizing animal products in your diet can improve your health read the book "The China Study". It documents one of the largest nutrition studies in history which was run by a highly reputable scientist who is NOT a vegetarian.
If you want to lose weight get a copy of "Fat-Free & Easy: Great Meals in Minutes" by Jennifer Raymond R.D.. The author went to a real university and is a Registered Dietitian. Despite the ugly title, the recipes are delicious, easy to make, vegan and the ingredients can be found in your local supermarket. You will lose weight while eating healthy and tasty food.
Book Review: Kick-arse, brilliant book Summary: 5 StarsI picked up this book whilst waiting at an airport and finished it in the same sitting. This is the best book I've read in years.
It absolutely kicked my butt, got me away from my junk-food obsession, and propelled me into the healthiest life I have ever lived. And that's saying something considering I was so addicted to sugar that I used to travel with it in my bag so I could snack on it!
The key thing that I took away from this book was the idea of choice. Where I used to let the food I ate and the constant cravings I got control me, I now CHOOSE what I eat- and I choose healthy, not because I have to, not because I'm on a stupid diet, but because I WANT to. This book was so inspiring that it shifted something within me. My partner is blown away by the changes I have made, and I am blown away by how easy it was- and how delicious the food that I now eat is!
I feel lighter, healthier, less bloated, more energetic, and better about myself. This book also inspired me to make changes in my life outside of food- I am now more empowered, less affected by stress and sadness, and feel stronger and more connected to myself.
I found that the key reason that this book changed my life in the way it did was because I was in a place where I was craving a better life. I wanted to stop feeling like "the ultimate life" was always somewhere in the future, and to make it happen now. One of the promises I have always made myself is that I'll be healthier "one day"... but I never made it happen- until now. I was open to change, and open to creating something amazing in my world. This book was just the supportive friend I needed to help get me there- and to help me stay there.
Some people may tell you this book is all about being vegan. That's rubbish. Others may tell you it's just a diet fad. That's crap. Others are under the impression it's not well-researched. Considering that 1/3 of the book is solid and strong references, I can't explain that one :-) So, if you read the reviews that tell you this book isn't worth buying, ignore them- if you are at a place where you just need that little push to live that life you've always dreamed about, then this is the book for you.
Enjoy xx
Book Review: Absolutely Worth Reading Summary: 5 StarsLet me say at the outset that I loved reading this book. This not to say that I agree with everything said in the book or even could personally adopt the Vegan diet - a life of soy meals is just not that appealing to me. But I did totally enjoy the read and appreciated that the authors took the no-holds-barred approach to the subject matter. In particular, I really liked their scathing exposition and rebuke of the meat and dairy industries. I share with the authors their contempt for the adulteration of the products we eat with chemicals and hormones as well as the industry's' all too common filthy practices. On the other hand, most people are also aware that non-tainted meat and food products are readily available in an increasing number of "natural" food type markets in many communities. Sure, some of the assertions made in the book have questionable scientific validity but they still remain serious subjects for concern and discussion. In my opinion, Skinny Bitch is well worth the read, and further, it's my belief that a sound Vegan diet can easily be integrated into an overall healthy lifestyle plan.

Book Review: Great information Summary: 4 StarsIn the beginning of the book you will find yourself laughing out loud by reading the truth, nothing but the crude truth splattered right there on your face!A little too deep into the vegetarian population makes you think twice when you are to take a bite at that delicious BBQ of yours, and really you will have a different way of thinking eating habits.
A great reading full of information well written indeed, you will not be able to put the book down for a minute and will want to finish it all at once!
Ciao and have fun skinny bitch!
Book Review: A Nasty Trick Summary: 1 StarsA book that features two lovely authors on the back cover and boasts a clever title is bound to be a best seller. However, this is not a diet book, but rather a 'thinly' (pun-intended) disguised soapbox for veganism. What diet advice there is, is the 'same old, same old,' only peppered with profanities to make it seem up-to-the minute and fresh. And as sad as the reports about animal abuse make me, we've heard these before, too. But if I'd wanted an advocacy book disguised as something else, I'd read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair all over again.
