Book Review: sure, its marketed--but it is NOT a PETA commercial

i wasn't sure what to expect when i got this box-set for myself. i'd read the reviews and knew is was about a vegan lifestyle, but i'm not someone who uses profanity and i'm not an avid PETA fan.
i was really delighted with this book, even though i didnt like the language. the reason is that the message was good, footnotes were given, and this was written in an honest voice.
it's hard to argue with the points the book makes and as for the hipocrosy some reviewers reference, the authors are straight-forward. they acknowledge that they are human and sometimes make concessions in the foods they choose. but they encourage you to be empowered and in control when you make decisions about what you eat. i completely agree.
as for the PETA-esque values, i dont believe it ever gets that far. PETA can be ..... over the top and turn a lot of people off with their militant attitude. this book, even with the "bitchy" tone, does not have that attitude.
this is great for people who need a kick in the pants to start eating better. it's great if you want to start thinking about what you eat and why.
the gist of the diet:
*eat clean: avoid pesticides as much as possible, consume no animal products, avoid artificial sweeteners and chemicals, avoid unhealthy stimulants like caffeine, avoid refined flour and sugar
*enjoy real food!
full discolsure: i and 26 and was a vegan from age 15-18, and a vegetarian before that. since going back to eating animal products, i struggled with weight. i am now going back to my vegan ways, really because this book inspired me to take control again.
