Book Reviews of Sink ReflectionsBook Review: Attitude Adjustment Plus! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is fantastic. I am a two week old flybaby and while that seems early to proclaim my life changed, I usually experience burnout in my personal improvement projects on week one.
This book asks the reader a lot of common sense questions and forces examination of all aspects of your life. For example, Why do you buy and collect stuff and clog up your house and life with it? The book goes on to answer with a "here's what to do intstead." It gives the overwhelmed homekeeper (or figurehead as I was) a starting place and do-able recommendations, putting a positive spin on what was my own personal idea of Hell. I am no longer slaving away for nothing. I am blessing myself and my home and most importantly, my husband. And my recently blessed environment has given us such peace in the last two weeks that I want to continue to bless it! I actually look forward to coming home and working on my zones, hotspots, and new habits. I feel like this book has forced a healthy assessment of my thinking and has given me information to spin my whining into a proactive and productive lifestyle. Are you in a rut and feeling bad all the time? Check out this book and Flylady's website. I promise if you are ready for change this will help you!
Book Review: Important! Why You Should Buy This Book!! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is clearly a labor of love. I know it's changing my life, slowly but surely -- I can look around my home now and feel hopeful and happy, instead of depressed and despairing. But that's not the only reason you should buy this book. You should buy this book because you don't have to. FLYlady has made all of the information available on her website, and through her mailing list. It's free. It's there to help people in CHAOS crisis, even the ones who can't afford to buy the book and are getting their information on the computer at the public library. And it's changing their lives for the better just like it changed mine. The world gets changed like that, one life at a time. Women (and men, too, I suppose) don't just clean up their houses with the ideas and advice given in this book, they clean up their acts. They start taking pride in themselves. They start getting out of situations where they and their children are endangered because they realize that they deserve better. They begin to FLY! So I bought this book because I know that those little royalty payments help keep that free outreach going (not to mention that it's great having the whole program laid out in one place). And the world needs places like flylady.net.
Book Review: Lifechanging Summary: 5 Stars
Stepford wife? Please! I am an educator with two college degrees and although happily married, have no children and like to work out with martial arts! This book is for ANYONE who feels like the clutter in their house has taken them over. My house was always messy and I had basically given up, thinking that there were clean people and messy people, and I was doomed to be one of the latter. I picked this book up on a whim at a local book store and was instantly intrigued. Imagine, a organizing book that makes no mention of buying nifty new containers or redoing your home to contain your crap! Flylady operates on the principal that if something in your home is causing you stress or if you are looking at it with disinterest or hate, it's time to LET IT GO! Toss it! Goodbye! This was a real novelty to a pack rat like me, and it has truly changed how I look at my home and the items within. While I am far from completely organized yet, it has made a HUGE difference and my home is far more serene now then it ever has been. I am slowly getting rid of everything that is not deserving a place in my life and I am all the better for it. This is the ONE organizing book out there that will really make a difference! Thank you Flylady!
Book Review: Reflecting on Reflections Summary: 5 Stars
Reflecting on the impact of Sink Relfections...it is an honest, common sense, no-excuses book for the overwhelmed. Through the personal discovery and "ah-ha" moments you learn that the CHAOS of everyday living is a sympton, not the problem. "FlyLady" empowers each person to have the courage to assess where they are and to take the first step to make a change. As the Chinese Philosopher said, "A journey of 1,000 miles begins with the first step." FlyLady's direct approach let's you know that with a few, well chosen routines, your life will change...whether you are a teen, grandma or somewhere in between. It's not a book about HOW to clean your home (let the Queen of Clean do that!) it's about cleaning away the obstacles that keep you bound. It is true that most of the information is available online. However, the book is a good introduction and handy reference for those not online 24/7. Though not written for everyone...everyone can get something out of the book, if they put a little bit of themselves into the book. It would be easy to flip through the book and just see a lot of common sense ideas; however, FlyLady really does blend mind, body & spirit to help you help yourself.
Book Review: Does she have a camera in my 5 Stars
This book is EXCELLENT! I thought I was the only one living in CHAOS. Marla just has a nice way of writing to get your attention and get you moving. She understands our plight and doesn't discourage - but rather encourages us to take baby steps eventually leading to a warm, clean, organized home. I've read MANY books on getting my home in order (at least 15 in the past 2 years)... but for some reason this one speaks to me. This morning I made a journal for my 6 yr old with the 10 things she needs to do in the morning before catching the school bus... She LOVED IT! She crossed off as she went along and I wasn't constantly yelling at her to do the next step. My kitchen has been clean for 2 weeks, my laundry is caught up and every night I have at least 45 minutes to do what "I" want to do before bed. If you are depressed with trying to get your home and life in order, this is a great book. I am also re-reading Don Aslett's Clear the Clutter and it now has new meaning. Now when a neighbor stops by - I can actually let them in. Marla is a Christian - so there are references to home blessing and quiet times with God. I personally enjoy her approach but I am trying to make this review generic.
