Book Reviews of Sink ReflectionsBook Review: Only housekeeping book you'll ever need! GREAT!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the ONLY housekeeping book you'll need. Ever. If you feel the need to have two, then add Don Anslet's "Clutter's Last Stand" and you're all set. "Sink Reflections" transformed our home and I sure wish I had read it YEARS ago. Ya know what? It doesn't really take that much time to keep a tidy house IF you know what you're doing & you stay on task, and that's where this book comes in. I love her philosophy of "Blessing" a home by cleaning it. That concept totally changed how I view housework and chores. I used to think cleaning was thankless and annoying; now I see that it's a way to show love for my family and appreciation for my home.
Great plan for every area of a home and lots of motivation to get up and get going. This book is all business, but funny as well. It isn't a quick fix -it's a realistic and supportive approach to getting organized and staying that way.
I marked sections of the book for later reference and keep it handy. The book includes short commentaries and examples from folks who use her approach, which are very motivational to read. Best tip EVER: using a timer when cleaning a room. It's surprising how much can be accomplished in only 10 minutes when you stay on task. This book won't disappoint; if you're looking to have a tidy, organized, pleasant home this is THE book to have. You'll love your home!!!
Book Review: A place for everthing and everything in it's place!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This book has engraved it's place in my heart. I have read it 3 times! And, I will probably read it several more times. I learn more each time I read it. I LOVE this book and FlyLady. She is amazing! I can not say enough good things! Buy this book and you won't be sorry. It makes you want to do better in all areas of your life, not just keeping a tidy home. I am uplifted each time I read from this book. I am in the process of making my own Control Journal that FlyLady talks about in her book and her website--www.flylady.com visit her website, there is an abundance of help in setting goals and meeting them. If you want a clean and organized home, read and follow this book. She guides you step by step. I only wish I had this book 11 years ago when I got married. I was always somewhat of a BO-Born Organizer, but I have gained so much from this book. I am purchasing the "Saving Dinner" book that FlyLady recommends--I hope it is just as good at helping me get out of the "what's for dinner?" rut. I am usually good at planning menu's and getting them made, but I get in a rut and make the same things month after month. I hope by buying the "Saving Dinner" book, I can have a whole years worth of different meals that my family will love to eat and I will love to cook. You can go to www.savingdinner.com to learn more about that book.
Book Review: Cutting through the clutter Summary: 5 Stars
Different people will take away different things from this book, depending on what point you're starting out from. If you're not quite *that* bad, or if you have anything other than a typical American lifestyle, you can selectively cull ideas from the book rather than adopting the program wholesale. In our case here in Taiwan, for example, you just *don't* wear shoes in the house, even clean tennis shoes. The main value of this book for me was how it addresses the perfectionist 'all-or-nothing' attitude that so often leads to 'crash and burn', and to feeling overwhelmed and procrastination on most other occasions. The idea of small but steady steps is an excellent one, as is that of setting a timer for 15 minutes per task, and then stopping. The to-do lists are also useful. I don't like to shop and am not really a thing collector, but cultivating a routine of throwing out 27 useless items a day promises to be a good way in my case to deal with *paper*. As some other reviewers mentioned, this book is easy and fun to read. Even - make that 'especially' - very, very busy working moms stand to gain a lot from FlyLady's experience, guidance and mind gymnastics. Centering the whole system around 'love' is another of the book's many strengths. If you ever make excuses about what you just can't get around to doing in the house, give this a try.
Book Review: Smooth-Sailing all day long with routines! Summary: 5 Stars
If you are the "Absent-Minded Professor" type, a creative, intelligent person who's embarrassed that you can't invite people over because the house is always messy, this is for you! If you are always late in the morning, rushing around all the time, can't find your keys and you're out of orange juice, buy this book! It's not for everyone, but it is for people who just don't have a system in place to make daily life go smoother. Single, married, retired, young parents, or students, everyone needs a plan and a system. If you don't have one already, then here's the answer. FlyLady Marla wrote this book to help us get organized in a long-term, realistic way.
A big, big part of this plan is to get rid of the things in our homes that we don't like or need, and then to have a daily routine for getting things done, so that we have more free time in the end. The other major part of her system is to get rid of perfectionism. Sometimes we worry about doing a job "right" so much that we just give up. If the laundry has piled up to frustrating and depressing heights, Marla can help! She teaches us how to be the turtle, not the hare!
If any of this sounds like you, buy this book! It is a God-send for frustrated perfectionists with good intentions but messy homes.
Book Review: Not Just Another "How to" Book! Summary: 5 Stars
Through sage and savvy advice, Marla Cilley helps even the most unorganized person feel organized and together. After reading this book I have been able to change my life through a series of small baby steps. Marla Cilley taught me that nothing is overwhelming or confusing if it is done in 15 minute increments! The most impressive thing is that the "Flylady" is not teaching perfectionism or perfect performance just an overwhelming sense of acceptance and comradery. There is no "Stepford wife" mentality here. She is merely asking the reader to "jump in" where they are and do as much as they can at any given time. Cilley's motto, "Housework done imperfectly still blesses your family," has really blessed mine! Being a stay at home mom with two children under the age of 3, I can say with all sincerity that my home is presentable any time the doorbell rings. I do not fly into a panic and stuff things into my closets or hide until the person gives up and leaves. My home is consistantly organized and clean for the first time since having children! I would recommend this book to anyone who is tired of clutter, housework and chaos. (By the way, Cilley also has a section devoted to women who work outside of the home.)
