Book Reviews of Single, Saved, and Having SexBook Review: Real, Practical Talk Summary: 5 Stars
This book made me feel like I was in a real-talk women's bible study class or sitting around having a true conversation with my girls or women of the family sitting around the kitchen table while grandmother shared her wisdom about how loose girls block their blessings.
After my divorce I decided I was not going to be seeking out any physical relationships to fullfill the void and cover the pain I knew only God could fill. I purchased this book over a year ago and took it off my shelf a couple of weeks ago to read because I am now at a point where I need to decide how I am going to live my life; and I am tired of playing games with myself because God wasn't participating in my madness. This book inspired me, encouraged me, kicked me, made me laugh at myself, and made me take a long hard look at me. I had to be honest with myself and God, as she stated in the book about where I am. But I knew I wanted better because God said I was worthy of more than what I had settled for. I thank Tye Adams for being real and sharing your life to let me know that the path that I was on was wide; many men and women are struggling in this area, BUT we don't have to stay on this path. I am purchasing several more copies to share with others.
Book Review: Great supplement to your bible Summary: 5 Stars
I found it surprising so many people had something negative to say about this book, I found to be a blessing. Not once did I ever feel like Ty Adams took a "holier-than thou" tone in her writing, nor do I feel like I was being condemned. I felt like she was being real about a subject that is so blatant in the media yet so taboo in the church and among Christians. More importantly, I felt like the advice she gave can be applied to all types of sin and the Christian walk as a whole, and not strictly celibacy.
I will admit I, like other reviewers, wanted more details as far as on the proper way to date. And some of her theories seemed a little far fetched (like masturbation invites a homosexual spirit into you). However, you can't depend on someone, another human being, to give you a step by step guide on how to live your life and handle your affairs. Ty Adams left just enough blank spaces for Christians to take their questions to God. After all He is the Manufacturer and knows us better than we know ourselves.
I definitely recommend this book to Christians struggling with sexual sin or considering or even already living a celibate lifestyle.
Book Review: Repented and Reformed Summary: 5 Stars
Ty Adams really poured her heart out on this one! This booked really helped me to reposition myself even with my thoughts. I appreciate her personal inserts and testimonies. We are overcomers by the word of testimonies and she has truly helped me to overcome in body and in spirit. For those readers who thought the book was redundant, humans learn through repitition. The more she quoted scripture and personal inserts, the more I became enlighted and focused to do the will of God as it concerns my body and mind. I would recommend this book to all of my friends, married or single. I think that this would be a great topical discussion for a single ministry. Although the book does focus on men as well as women, I wish that there were more inserts for the men. Sometimes I think they are often overlooked. Outside of that one critic, this book has really helped to heal my spirit!
Book Review: Great Discussion Book Summary: 5 Stars
I was made aware of this book as my friends got together for a discussion on dating (men & women). The topic is relevant because although we'd hate to admit it, sex outside of marriage is PREVALENT in the church setting. Even though we as Christians are taught otherwise, the history of fallen preachers and raging hormones continue to plague the daily lives of single Christians. Poor us, right? Anyway, the book was our first, and since then we've had many group discussions, so thank you Ty Adams for starting us off! Additionally, she was one of the writers that inspired me to write my own dating book The Diva Dating Manual
Book Review: Convicted and Reclaimed Summary: 5 Stars
I am writing in praise of Single, Saved, and Having Sex. This is an awesome book no matter how you look at it. The real subject matter pertains to being single, saved, and not having sex. Ty spoke in an in your face manner concerning some taboo subjects most people tip-toe around. Especially those in the 'church'. I have nothing but praise for the content. Ty will convict your heart and soul and perhaps you will reclaim the self worth and dignity we often give so easily away to others.
Get off the merry-go-round and get ready to live single, saved, and not having sex.
