Book Review: Read-a-holic loves the Shopaholic!

Alot of women in the US are shopaholics, but if you're like me, you don't pay full price for anything! No, no,no! I am a coupon-shopper and a special events shopper, and even though I LOVE upscale merchandize, I can make do with the cheaper, more economical versions of shoes, bags, and clothes. Just the other day I was at JCP and found a sweater with a blouse sewn to it for a real bargain. I combined that with a pair of black ankle boots, a couple of cotton white tee shirts and a nice gold metal watch ---- the sweater + COUPON came to only $8.35! So, to be sure that I got the maximal money savings, I bought three of the sweaters in different colors, which are great for my work wardrobe! I have to look really good at work, since I teach and am a role model. I spied a nice suit in the store, which was regularly priced at $179.00 for the slacks and matching blazer, but after I combined that suit with a couple polyester long sleeved blouses and natty muffler scarf, my suit came to just below $40.00! Everything that I bought that day was 70% off!
The trouble with the Shopaholic that Sophie Kinsella writes about is she never buys anything on sale. She only buys big name labels and she shops every day for things that she'll never use! No wonder she's racked up bills in the tens of thousands! How can anybody be so impulsive and impetuous? I have to confess, that I adore shopping and get all tingly inside when I see salespeople unpacking fresh merchanize directly out of their fresh brown cardboard boxes; I swoop in and begin to choose my loot before they can finish building their sales displays, but the best merchandize is the fresh stuff - right outta the box! Becky Bloomwood (the fictional protagonist) is a very stylish shopper; she name drops famous designers like it's a native language; I admire her style choices and the way she pairs up looks for her friends. The book really paints a colorful fashion picture in the reader's minds....very nice looks are described within this book! If I could help Rebecca Bloomwood in any way, I would love to teach "BEX" how to coupon shop, and how to save and stretch her dollars.
There are places in LA (where I live) that Bex needs to see; Santee Alley for example. There is this world called KNOCK-OFFS that Bex really ought to see and experience. Can she really tell the difference between an authentic Coach or Gucci bag versus a knock-off version? That would be an interesting subplot for sure.
In the end, Bex finds herself drowning in debt that she cannot possibly repay, but the book solves the riddle for her.
It isn't right that this woman went out and shopped all day and did not have a job or any inheritance to rightfully pay for all her purchasing. I think the story teaches people to be irresponsible, and perhaps the main charactor has a bit of obsessive compusive disorder. In any case, in the end she finishes her story with flair and a drop of genious to disssolve her debts - I enjoyed the book so very immensely. It took me to places that I will never afford to go in the real world, but I don't need to go to a spa for the head to toe wax job! I loved this book - be careful that it doesn't cause you to over spend in the days after you read it.
I bought the whole series of these nice little books - four of them (for the price of three with free postage from AMAZON.com if you spend more than $25.00! Such a deal!)
Go ahead and buy the entire set, make a pot of tea and read your spend-a-holic hearts out!!!!! It's a kick in the pants!!!
