Book Reviews of Shadows of the Empire (Star Wars)Book Review: Shadows Summary: 5 Stars
Good book. Not one of the more amazing stories to come out of the Star Wars storyline, but still good. It is set in between ESB and ROTJ. It is worth reading simply for the attention paid to Vader. It gives a good inside look into what he feels, thinks, wants, and goes well with the new prequels.
The Prince Xizor is a little weird, and not the type of bad-guy that I enjoy. I'm sure other people thought he was great, but I would rather Vader stay in the role of the bad guy. He was original though, and made for interesting reading.
The book was a fun read overall and highly recommended to Star Wars fans. All the main characters are there (except for Solo of course) along with some new ones including Dash Rendar, rogue and braggert.
Book Review: What Lurks beyond the shadows? Summary: 5 Stars
This novel is set wedged between "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" A shorter book, than most of the other Star Wars Bantam Paperbacks, at just over 300 pages, but let that not draw away from this overly hyped book. It features such marketed characters as Dash Rendar, Prince Xizor, and the ASP Droid (several of them, actually). Most of the main characters are present in this tale, and it is very interesting, once you get past the first page (That's For you, Josh!). Dash is a Han Solo-like smuggler and Xizor is battling Vader for favortism in the Emperor's Eyes. Things progress, mighty dubiously, I must attest, and the space battles are well choreographed. This is a really good book.
Book Review: First SW book I ever read! Shadows is a killer read! Summary: 5 Stars
At first I was very skeptical about picking up any book that followed or happend during the greatest movie trilogy of all time. Once I started reading SOTE I could not put this book down. I loved the action and storyline of the quarrel between Vader and Xizor, and Xizor's Black Sun organization. I really enjoyed the character of Xizor, though Guri could have had more life into her. The sexual nature between Xizor and Leia gave the book a realistic feeling in a sci-fi universe, luckly it wasn't too steamy. Overall I believe this is one killer book to read, and I would hope for this book to be made into a movie after the 3 new prequels are done. Please Mr. Lucas, make Shadows of the Empire into a movie!!
Book Review: Great book. Summary: 5 Stars
What can I say, it's a great book!
The ending was a little disappointing, but I think that's because we know how it must end. It sets the stage for Return of the Jedi and it ends just before ROTJ begins.
The very best thing about this book? You get a look into Darth Vader's head. We get to see the twisted being he really is, how he really feels (something we don't get to see in The Empire Strikes back novel) and how really terrified he is of going against the Emperor's wishes. You get to see how he feels about his son. I would go into this further, but I don't want to spoil anything, so I will stop there.
If you like Star Wars, I recommend this book to you.
Book Review: Good, but not Perfect Summary: 5 Stars
This is a good escape from the norm of Star Wars novels. So often, there is the same story, with different characters. The only books that have escaped these norms are the Thrawn trilogy and the X Wing Series. Now, there is another. The book comes with a difficult set of circumstances, being a prequel to Return of The Jedi. That also means that you can pretty much expect what will happen, which makes this pretty unsuspenseful, like most Star Wars books. But still, the book is tons of fun, the only reason you might NOT like it is if you are a Star Wars purist and will not accept anything written about the original universe that is not written by George Lucas. But even as a semi purist, I enjoyed it
