Book Review: Empires Power Summary: 5 Stars
I haven't read all that many star wars books. Maybe about 10? Anyway this is a book that you need to read between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The book explains how 1) Luke gets a green lightsaber. 2) In Return of the Jedi Leia says "Many bothans died retreiving this information." it explains how and why 3) And it gives a new character or three. Xizor the criminal master of the Black Sun underground crime sindicate. Guri, his personal bodyguard, and Dash Rendar, a character several people didn't like. I thought he fit perfectly into the story. The story is about the Empire searching for Luke. The Emperor wants him to join the dark side. Xizor wants to become the New Darth Vader and become the New Dark Lord. HE tries to mess w/ vaders plans every chance he gets. Both the Empire and the Black Sun send bounty hunters out to find Luke. The Black Sun wants him dead and the Empire wants him alive. The best book I've read in awhile. The character development goes far beyond any other book. Fighting scenes are amazingly described and the story is amazingly perfect. The only thing that dissapointed me was that Boba Fett was not in the story at all. It didn't matter though once I started reading it.
Book Review: You must read Shadows of the Empire! Summary: 5 Stars
Shadows of the Empire is a wonderful, fast paced , and action packed addition to the Star Wars series. Perry's representation of the characters is marvelous, and I dont think I've ever seen a better supporting villian than Xixor, head of the infamous underground crime syndicate, Black Sun.
The way Perry usurps the role of transforming Luke from a young(and in some ways immature)man to a hardened Jedi Knight is done brilliantly. The plot couldnt have been written any better either. Perry does a great job of balancing out the many conflicts that seem to be occuring at one time(as seen in the Trilogy). Dash Rendar, the other new main character,is a piece of work as well. He is a smart-mouthed, arrogant, and fast talking smuggler who eventually drops the hard outer shell revealing that he is really a nice guy(kinda like Han Solo). This book, all and all, is great on many platforms. It combines the typical problem of the Star Wars Trilogy: The evil Galactic Empire, with the introduction of Xixor and his quest to be the Emperor's right hand man. And it combines them well. Fans like myself couldnt have asked for anything any better, and if you havent read it already, PLEASE DO.
Book Review: Great in-between-er. Summary: 5 Stars
This book highlights the events between The Empires Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi. If you have seen the movies ( or read the books ) and have a good memory of the events, this book is for you. Han is still frozen in carbonite and there is a personal battle between Darth Vader and a leader of a international gang. The only problem is, Luke is wanted by both. Except one wants him dead and the other alive. Leia, Chewbacca and Lando etc. are also caught in the web. It fits brilliantly with the movies and explains a few unexplained questions like " Where the heck did Leia get that alien suit which she used at Jabbas Palace? ". It contains the same feel of rebellion as the movies does, and features events in which Lukes power increase. While this happens the Emperor and Vader ponder on how they will trun him to the Dark Side. Through the whole book you also sense that Vader is about to betray the Emperor. Unlike the movies you can see deeply into the twisted mind of Vader and you find a lot of stuff about his disfunctional body. All in all, a great book which embodies the traditional excellence of all Star Wars books.
Book Review: Shadows of the Empire hits a homerun! Summary: 5 Stars
For years I have watched Star Wars and Star Wars related stuff. Then, I decided it was time to try out some of the Star Wars novels based on George Lucas' characters. I looked at many titles such as Heir to the Empire, Truce at Bakura, and The Courtship of Princess Leia, but Shadows of the Empire was the only one that truly drew me in. Steve Perry shows a great care for detail and fantasy while still sticking to the Star Wars guidelines. Also, he brings in new characters, while still keeping the old ones fresh in our minds. I belive that Xizor, The Black Sun Crimelord, is one of the most masterminded characters ever in a Star Wars novel. Many have complaints about subjects in novel about things like Why did Leia make out with Xizor, or Why didn't Vader wait for Luke at Jabba's Palace. Well, for one, if these things didn't happen, there would be no intriguing storyline, and two, Vader didn't wait for Luke because he wasn't waiting for him in Return of the Jedi. These are some reasons that I liked it, and this iswhyI recommend this book to any Star Wars fanatics.
