Book Reviews of Serenity Official Visual Companion

Book Review: Ni Hao! A super-shiny supplement to the film
Summary: 5 Stars

This book makes a very nice supplement to the film. It reads like a book-long interview with Joss, and includes a full shooting script, although NOT in original format, which I found disappointing - but the book as a whole overwhelms any slight disappointment I'd felt about this detail.

There are really interesting pre-production memos and drawings. The book also includes Joss' explanations of the Serenity/Firefly universe, some of his angst over adapting characters and stories intended for a long run on television to a two-hour movie, and wonderful photography. The book itself is well designed, absolutely beautiful to hold and page through.

It was well worth the money.

Book Review: Must Have For ANY Browncoat
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is a wonderful presentation of the original script for "Serenity" including beautiful concept art, Joss Whedon's comments on music and lighting, as well as an interview with Joss about making "Firefly" into "Serenity."
Since this book contains the original shooting script, it does contain spoilers, so if you don't like spoilers, wait until you've seen the movie before you pick this book up. Also, because this is the shooting script, it isn't the exact same as the movie, a few lines have been changed in the movie, and things have been cut from the script present in this book.
But like I said, this is a must have for any Browncoat.

You can't stop the signal

Book Review: Outstanding insight into the mind of a quirky genius
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are like a lot of Firefly fans, you never even watched the series until it came out on DVD. Like the characters on the show, Firefly has been fighting an uphill battle all its life, a battle that continues after the release of the excellent, well-reviewed, but vastly under-attended feature film, Serenity. Firefly's life has never been easy, but it has always been interesting, and this nicely laid-out screenplay/companion book, filled with story boards, production photos, fascinating interviews and insights, and beautiful shots from the movie, just makes it clear how much of a labor of love Serenity truly is.

Book Review: Get this book if you own Serenity or Firefly DVD's or both.
Summary: 5 Stars

You get the full shooting script including the translated Mandarin Chinese and some deleted lines. You get details that go by to quickly in the film and production art. You get brief thoughts on the characters by the actors who play them. You get Joss's technical direction. You get "The Ballad of Serenity". You get the list of all the Alliance planets. This makes me a geek. Forget Star Trek and Star Wars. This trade paper-back format book is nicely put together and is a great addition to my library.

Book Review: Serenity - FIREFLY lives on!
Summary: 5 Stars

Great book!
I can't get enough FIREFLY stuff. Very well done book covering everything you might have missed the ten times you watched SERENITY, the movie! God, how I miss watching new FIREFLY episodes! Sure wish someone would come to their senses and realize that FIREFLY was - and still is - WAY ahead of MOST new series that keep popping up on TV. BEST TV I have ever watched. BRING THEM BACK! <You can't stop the signal!>

And

Don't take the sky from me!
