Book Reviews of Serenity Official Visual Companion

Book Review: Was Not Disappointed!
Summary: 5 Stars

Having just discovered the Joss Whedon world of Firefly (the cancelled TV series), I could hardly wait to pick up Serenity after its release on DVD. I was looking forward to having some of the loose ends from the series finally tied up. In every way, the movie lived up to my expectations and my expectations were high indeed. I wanted to kick myself for not having taken the time to see it in the theater! I had rented Firefly and after the first disk, I ran out and bought myself the series on DVD and am now an official 'Browncoat' and proud of it. Serenity is like the icing on the proverbial cake and it now ranks up there in my top 20 favorite movies of all time, mostly because it is fun, intelligent and full of the characters I knew and loved. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys sci-fi, ensemble cast movies and, of course, fans of the Firefly series.

Book Review: A Must Have for True Fans
Summary: 5 Stars

The Official Visual Companion is excellent for its graphics, stills, and production artwork from the filming processes alone. However, it touches upon almost every element of the production process as well. It is not a text book for film production, nothing is dealt with in great detail, but each element IS touched upon where it is most appropriate: Inara's costumes, Reaver make-up, etc. Fans of Joss Whedon will love the Meemos at the beginning, offering insights into his intentions and the tools he used to tell his story on multiple levels. The shooting script itself is priceless to answer almost every question you could have of the film, from "was that reaver REALLY a femail?" to "What does Mal REALLY say when he's telling off Inara?"

Good stuff.

Book Review: Superb!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love Serenity, Firefly, anything Joss Whedon doses is bound to be good. I got this for Christmas and it rocks. It has the original shooting script, so we all can read the deleted scenes from the theatrical release!! Plus, it has an fasinating interview with Joss at the very begining!! And if that's not enough to move yo to buy it, it has amazing pictures, original sketches of scenes, and behind the scenes information that we all were dying to know about! One last thing this amazing book has is the MEE- MOS. In case you have no idea what that is it's memos, but that's how Joss Whedon put's it so, huh.
Even if you are not a die-hard fan, you should still buy it because it will completely blow your mind!!
WE HAVE TAKEN BACK THE SKY!!

Book Review: MUST HAVE FOR FIREFLY FANS
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow...who would have ever thought a year ago or so that we'd be seeing a book...any book, on this great, short-lived TV show that was never given a chance to blossom by the numbskulls at Fox. I hope the film does huge business so creator Joss Whedon can rub their noses in it.

Like all the great Visual Companion books it contains a wealth of information about the film including some great photography, pre-productions sketchs, finished art, storyboards, as well as the complete shooting script. There are great concept drawings of ships and weapons as well. But the best part of the book is the lengthy interview with Whedon himself which reveals a lot of information about the Firefly universe. Great stuff and a must have for fans.

Book Review: Entering the 'verse
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is awesome. It includes the shooting script for the movie and gives a lot of historical background information on the Firefly 'verse as well as some of Joss Whedon's and the cast's musings on Firefly and the making of Serenity. A cool part of the book is the long interview with Joss, which prefaces the screening script. Joss discusses anything and everything you would want to know about the characters, about the ship, and about the 'verse. The best part about the shooting script is it includes Joss' descriptions before they came to life and deleted scenes so it's the original story Joss wanted to tell. Overall, I'd recommend this book for anybody who wants to know more about Firefly and Serenity.
