Book Reviews of Secrets So Deep

Book Review: very good read
Summary: 5 Stars

this book was a sruprise, when i started reading i did not expect it to be such a great story. i read it in one sitting, i could not put it down.

Book Review: Nope didn't get it or enjoy it
Summary: 2 Stars

I've enjoyed reading previous books by KG.
I enjoyed books like Mulligan, where we read about older wiser lesbians a topic many authors don't write about. I was really interested in those characters.

In this book I allready could tell who the killer was..so no surprises here.
I found the son to be annoying and whiny and KG doesn't really deal with his issues very well or give him a clear personality.

There is too much leverage given to the Psychiatrist. I didn't buy what she knew and how she came to her conclusions.

I find that more and more 'Lesbian' authors today are writing about, Bi-sexual women and there openess to both enjoying sex with both.

As Oprah has said 'I don't get it'. Well neither do I.
I don't condemn or judge Bi-sexual women.
But the author needs to decide what kind of book this is so I can decide if I really want to buy it
Is it a Lesbian book or a B-sexual book?

Book Review: One Brilliant Book!

Lambda Award winning author, KG MacGregor's latest entry is a MUST READ!

I was completely engrossed in SECRETS SO DEEP from beginning to end.

It was realistic, well plotted, thoroughly researched, and had intriguing surprises at various turns.

Thanks KG - I appreciate the effort very much!

Book Review: Taut--Not, Entertaining Nonetheless
Summary: 4 Stars

MacGregor is one of my favorite authors. Really, she is. I liked the characters here. But to suggest as one reviewer did that it is was a taut psychological thriller would be like saying "Bittersweet" was a fun, breezy read. You can guess what happened fairly easily. But I gave this book four stars because it was still a fun ride and the characters were enjoyable. If I could I would have given it four-and-a-half stars because the author finally gives us a satisfying ending. Her books have traditionally just ended, which I hate. This one she gives us hopeless romantics some closure and a glimpse of something special for the main characters. I also think she writes some of the best sex scenes anywhere. ("Out of Love" was the best in that regard.) I just wish there were more sex scenes. But alas, the plot didn't allow for it. I am generally forgiving of gratuitous sex, but I know some reviewers are merciless. MacGregor (and other authors) should be commended for letting the characters and plot decide in that regard, though I would urge her gently and playfully that her next PLOT should incorporate more of it.

Book Review: A well written multi-faceted plot
Summary: 4 Stars

There are many kinds of secrets. There are those that you keep to protect yourself and those that protect other people. There are the ones you keep out of pride, the ones out of love and the ones you keep out of fear. And there are the secrets you keep because you're professionally required to do so or you think society doesn't leave you any other choice. All of them have an impact on how you live your life and all of them are found in Secrets So Deep.

Congresswoman Glynn Wright knows about secrets. She loved her husband Sebastian "Bas" totally and since his accidental death has tried to fill his Congressional seat as he would have. That means hiding her bisexuality from her constituents who tend to be more conservative. She has also chosen to cover up the fact that she is being treated for breast cancer. All of her secrets may become inconsequential though when her son Sebastian, Jr. "Sebby" tries to kill himself, again. Glynn is devoted to her son, who she knows has been suffering terribly since his father's death. She will do anything to see him made well and decides to put her trust in Dr. Charlotte Blue, the psychiatrist who does his intake at the hospital, by revealing everything in the hope that it will do some good for Sebby. When Charlotte recommends a residential facility under another doctor's care, Glynn agrees even though she misses her son. In her loneliness, she turns to Charlotte as a friend and it isn't long before they develop stronger feelings for each other. Those feelings are going to be seriously tested when Glynn finds herself under suspicion in a courtroom. Now all will be revealed - her lifestyle, her illness, her involvement with Charlotte. Can she salvage her political career? Will this set back her treatments? Will she lose Charlotte? And, most importantly, how will all of this affect her relationship with Sebby?

KG MacGregor has demonstrated her mastery of the craft in this story. Her plot is not linear or one dimensional as in many books. The separate plots flow together and wrap around each other creating a cohesive story with great reality. MacGregor's characters are extremely true to life. The reader can feel and identify with what these characters are experiencing. This is one of MacGregor's best written books and definitely worth reading.
