Book Reviews of Secretariat: The Making Of A Champion

Book Review: The Horse of the Century
Summary: 5 Stars

When I was a young boy of about 11, I was attending my first Kentucky Derby party given by a friend's parents in Lousiville. Seeing this great horse thunder around the track and win the Derby and later take the Triple Crown, I was forever wanting to watch and later take part in horse racing. This book gives a great deal of the biographry of Secretariat and his on going quest to become the greatest champion that the sport has ever known or will probably ever know. William Nack presents a easy and wonderful story and an enjoyable read. I would have to say that this book is a must have for any horse lover or racing lover's library.

Book Review: GREAT BOOK, GREATEST HORSE
Summary: 5 Stars

I have fond memories of Secretariat. I was just 10 years old, but I remember the Belmont like it was yesterday. I cried when this wonderful horse died. I read this book about a year ago and could not put it down. Nack's writing and his admiration and love for Secretariat made such an impression. His description of the last time he saw Secretariat brought me to tears. This book should be read by everyone with any interest in horses. It would be a shame to miss this one. It is well written and not to be missed. Thank you Mr. Nack.

Book Review: A Great Book for the Greatest Belmont Race Winner Ever
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great book that captures the spirit and triumphs of Scretariat, who was more than a champion race horse. Just compare FunnyCide, this year's Triple Crown hopeful, in the Belmont to Big Red's stunning 31 length win, and you'll instantly understand how great Scretariat was. I sometime watch that race to get inspired!

Bill Nack lived it, wrote it, and his book stands as a great tribute that captures the setbacks and thrills of one of the greatest race horses of all time. You can't beat this book for a good read!

Book Review: An insiders view
Summary: 5 Stars

It's a good book, reminds you that what in hindsight was what looked like just a march to inevitable victory and legend, was really a lot of tense, hard, and stressful work by horses and people. Being famous is hard, being legendary is even harder. Not very many heros like Secretariat turn out to be a genuine as he was. He was the real deal, a hero who really was. The book brings it out and makes him alive again for just a little while.

Book Review: This great book is the equal of the greatest horse of all time
Summary: 5 Stars

I've read virtually all the books on Secretariat and first read this book many years. My original copy was so dog-eared and rumpled after multiple readings that I bought a second copy several years later. This book is as superior to others of its kind as Secretariat was to the horses that raced against him. The insights Nack gained from being at the stable, from knowing the human characters and the horse, are gifts to history.
