Book Reviews of Seasons of the Witch Daily 2009

Book Review: An absolute MUST for the busy witch!
Summary: 5 Stars

Bright Blessings!

I have been getting Seasons of the Witch planners for many years, and this one is the best so far! This version, the Daily binding, is a true work of art. I usually get the weekly version, and haven't gotten the daily for a number of years, so I was surprised (pleasantly) to find this binding to be very binder like. When you first look at it, it appears to be a binder, but upon further inspection you find that it is actually spiral bound. A spiral binding is (in my opinion) an absolute MUST for anything you need to reference, especially a planner, as it allows you to lay it flat while writing in it.

The first page of the planner contains a blessing. According to the publisher (a small family run operation) they collectively bless all books prior to shipping to distributors. This blessing is for you to do a 2nd pblessing on it yourself if you so choose, and to retain the spirit of their initial blessing. This is meaningful in several ways. First of all, it is vital to support family run businesses as they are a dying breed. Next, I think it is important for a magickal item to be imbibed with as much magickal energy as possible. Blessings by well trained witches is one way of doing this.

Next you will find directions for use, a witches lunar calendar, a section on moon naming traditions, an explanation on opportunities for extended spells, explanation on Void of Course Moons (crucial knowledge for casting,) periods of mercury retrograde for the year, a color correspondences index, and a few ads for their other products. Some people may look down on them for having these ads, but I do not. Again, they are a small family business. They really MUST advertise at reasonable opportunities. Second, I like seeing what other wonderful items they offer, especially since the covers are often beautifully rendered.

Next you come to tabs with the months labelled, and enter the bulk of the planner. Each month starts with a beautiful full page picture and an appropriate passage beneath, followed by a monthly layout. Days of the waxing moon are shaded for easy access, perfect for manifesting. Retrogrades are indicated, secular holidays noted, Power days noted, phase of the moon, etc are all available at a glance on the monthly 2 page spread.

Then you go into the daily pages. Daily pages consist of Void of Course times, secular holidays, Power Casting days (these are major and minor times of particular energy for specific purposes,) recommended tarot cards for spells, moon phases, what sign the moon is entering, colors, etc. As well as a place to write your own notes, appointments, etc. You will occassionally find history, charms, explanations and more on the bottom of daily pages. At the end of each month is several pages for your own notes.

Last but not least, there is an attached red ribbon to use to hold your place.

Another reviewer commented that she didn't think much about the Power Casting days because it was not explained. Actually, it is explained in the directions for use at the front of the book. "The 7th House system fine tunes spell casting by working with natural law. We painstakingly sorted the bosy of Witches' wisdom, cross-referenced each detail with months, dates, days of the week, seasons, sabbats, moon phases and lunar astrology, then melded it with the contemporary format for personal organization." I don't know how much more detailed of an explanation they could provide than that, and I am quite satisfied with the results I have received using their method for years. I hope this helps to clarify this for readers :)

This book is great to use as a regular planner, magickal reference, an anual Book of Shadows, or a combination of the three! Once you use this beautiful datebook, nothing else will ever do. I should know. I own an online new age shop and I carry them all, but this is the only planner I keep for myself!
