I was referred to this book by people in Internet discussion groups who had been struggling with chronic insomnia for long periods and were not getting relief from sleeping pills and had success utilizing the recommendations from this book.

I found the author to be very credible given his background and professional experience doing working at sleep research clinics.

This book provides background information on the physical, environmental and psychological factors that contribute to insomnia and offers concrete recommendations for how to address them.

I knew sleeping pills were not a healthy approach and became less effective over time. This book provides a whole section on the subject and explains that sleeping pills actually don't promote sleep at all, they are amnesiacs, so you just don't remember that you were awake!

The thing that surprised me the most was the physical or biological factors that contribute to insomnia.

I had no idea the important role that body temperature played in the sleep cycle and that the common things that people normally do when they are short on sleep (ex: go to bed early to try and get a good night's sleep or sleeping in to recover from lost sleep) are actually working against them.

I also did not appreciate that people can fully function on reduced sleep and strategies I could take involving getting enough sunlight and exercise to help.

This book was very informative and I am successfully using these techniques to reduce my insomnia without having to be reliant on sleeping pills.

I would recommend this book for people that are struggling with chronic insomnia and are looking for a healthy, natural approach for resolution.
