Customer Review: Fun, pleasant read -- not award material tho

This was a fun read. Great characters in a fun road trip story where all the characters learned inportant lessons. The "Savvy" theme was kind of cute, but I think it would have had more impact on young readers if it had gone beyond the "special savvys" that the main character's family possessed and addressed that each of us have a savvy, something that each reader can find within him or herself that is special.
I liked this book fine -- didn't love it tho and don't really think it was worthy of Newberry Honor book status. However this was apparently a year of thin choice in Juvenile books. Actually based on how I disliked all the other award choices this year -- it should have won! Any other year against much better books it would not have been considered.
