Book Reviews of Ruffian: Burning from the StartBook Review: a page turner Summary: 5 Stars
i love thoroughbreds - especially mares. i found the story of ruffian riveting and emotional. this is the story of a phenomenol race horse who at the age of 2 was beating the times of secretariet. the goings-on in the backstretch are accurately depicted and i found the stories of the trainers, jockies and owners very intriguing and entertaining. i cried at the end of this wonderful little book and went outside and gave my thoroughbred mare a great big hug (and thanked the racing gods she was too slow when she raced and retired early.) you will not be disappointed with this one.
Book Review: The Immortal Ruffian NEVER Headed ! Summary: 5 Stars
The story of Ruffian was one of great courage and triumph. Jane Schwartz did a wonderful job inher book highlighting the wonderful moments of what could be called the greates filly of all time.Ruffian ran her heart out and she was NEVER headed, no one ever got in front of Ruffian. This is a great historical reference and a wonderful book. Be forewarned if you cry easily, or would be troubled from a tragic ending. Ruffian was the best but her last race cost her everything. This book is a must have in your collection. Best Regards to all, MC - TheStickRules.Com
Book Review: Queen of the Fillies Summary: 5 Stars
July 6, 1975 I was 21 and at Belmont Park to see my first horse race. We were there to see Ruffian the Queen of the Fillies race against the beautiful Stallion Foolish Pleasure. I cried for weeks after that race and this book was so exact as far as the events of the race went it brought back all the frightening emotions I had 33 years ago. This book is well written, giving you Ruffian's entire short 3 years of life starting with her birth. If you want to know more about this magnificent creature, Buy this book you will not regret it.
Book Review: Excellent writing about one of the great race horses ever! Summary: 5 Stars
Anyone who ever watched this filly race knew what a special sight it was, to see her pulling away from the others, compelled to race. She had an excellent trainer but I happen to believe she also had an instinctive drive to use every bit of power and heart she had. This book chronicles it all, from start to finish and it'll capture the heart of both horse lovers and anyone who simply likes to read a good book. Ruffian
Book Review: Very few books can move a person to tears.... Summary: 5 Stars
but this one did. I have always loved horses and horse racing, I wrote a report on Ruffian when I was 14, and have always found her tale a tragic one, never have a read a story as compelling as this tale. If you loved Seabiscuit, heck, even if you barely made it through reading it read this book, it is an infinitly better book. The tale is better and the writing much easier to read. They should have honestly turned this tale into a movie rather than seabiscuits.
